A United Airlines plane skidded off the runway after landing in Houston, causing one of its main landing gear to collapse.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the incident occurred at George Bush International Airport in Houston, Texas, today, when a United Airlines Boeing 737 Max 8 skidded onto the grass while leaving the runway after landing.

Images from the scene showed the Boeing 737 Max's left main landing gear collapsed, leaving the engine and wingtips pressed to the ground and the plane's nose tilted up. Witnesses said the fuselage was intact, but it was "really stuck."

The FAA did not disclose the number of people on board, but confirmed that all passengers had disembarked and were taken by bus to the airport terminal. The US official’s statement did not mention any injuries and the cause of the incident is unclear.

Civil aviation tracking data shows that the crashed aircraft, coded N27290, was manufactured more than 4 years ago and delivered to United Airlines in June 2023.
