Despite the controversy, Ma da still leads the box office

Although the conflicts with the cast have not been resolved satisfactorily, it does not seem to have affected the revenue of the movie Ma da too much. In particular, the rise of this Vietnamese movie also ends the long period of foreign movies dominating the Vietnamese box office in recent months.

During the first 3 weekends of its release (from August 16 to 18), according to statistics from Box Office Vietnam, Ma da earned more than 40 billion VND with more than 9,600 screenings, equivalent to nearly 471,000 tickets sold.

"Ma da" is having impressive revenue in the first week of release.

As of 10am on August 19, the film had earned nearly 50 billion VND, approaching the break-even point. According to the disclosure, with an investment budget of about 35 billion VND, if the film reaches a revenue of 70 billion VND, it will break even and start making a profit.

Previously, the film producer Nhat Trung also continuously reported good news when the film reached the top 1 Vietnamese horror film revenue on the first day of release with 11.34 billion VND.

When it was released simultaneously in several countries such as Korea and Australia, the film also achieved positive results. Specifically, the film sold more than 10,000 tickets in Korea in just 2 days.

The fact that Ma da has taken the top spot at the domestic box office also ends a long period of foreign films leading. The last time a Vietnamese film topped the domestic box office was Lat mat 7 in May. Since then, many Vietnamese films have been released: Claws, Murder on the 4th Floor, The Most Beautiful Summer ... but all failed to make money.

At the same time as its official release in theaters, the film was caught up in controversy when the scenes of Meritorious Artist Thanh Loc and singer Cam Ly only appeared for a short time.

Speaking about this, producer Nhat Trung said that during the post-production and editing process of the film, many scenes that both actors had put a lot of effort into completing had to be removed. "This was a must to get the current film version. This led to the roles of Thanh Loc and Cam Ly being reduced in length compared to the original plans," producer Nhat Trung said. At the same time, he affirmed that the adjustment of the film version was all decided by the production team, not related to or influenced by any other individual or unit.

And singer Cam Ly's scenes in the movie were cut out quite a lot, making fans angry.

He also said that not informing both of them in writing as soon as possible was a complete mistake. Regarding the solution, the producer has met with both of them and is discussing further ways to resolve the issue to the satisfaction of all parties.

However, the explanation from the producer did not receive much consensus from netizens. Many people think that using the names of these two artists for PR during the film making process but ultimately leaving the audience stunned is unacceptable. In particular, apologizing after the incident has occurred is also considered an inappropriate action.

In a post on his personal page, Meritorious Artist Thanh Loc is said to not accept this late apology.
