According to Neowin , the world's largest game distribution platform has just announced the results of the 'Steam Hardware and Software Survey' for December 2023, revealing a panoramic picture of the hardware and software that Steam users use to play games. Currently, the battle between Windows 10 and Windows 11 is increasingly fierce, promising interesting developments in 2024.
Specifically, Windows 10 is still holding the throne, although it slightly decreased by 0.16% compared to November 2023, Windows 10 is still the most popular operating system on Steam, accounting for 53.45% of all users. This shows that Microsoft's operating system is still popular for both work and entertainment, despite the launch of Windows 11.
Meanwhile, Windows 11 is closing in on its predecessor, although it has shown signs of slowing down after surpassing 42% in November, the latest operating system continues to show steady growth. In December, the platform had a 41.95% market share on Steam, just 1.5% behind Windows 10. The race between the two operating systems promises to be exciting and unpredictable in the coming year.
Older versions of Windows like Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 also saw a slight decline. Notably, a platform called “Windows 2019 64-bit” appeared with a market share of 0.06%, a small but intriguing number. Is this a sign that the enterprise operating system is encroaching on the gaming market?
Steam's survey shows that Windows still dominates the PC gaming market. While Windows 10 still leads, Windows 11 is catching up at a significant pace. Game developers will definitely need to take note of this shift to ensure their games run smoothly on both operating systems.
