Teachers want to give back to life

Every Saturday and Sunday morning, the small house in Tam Anh Bac commune, Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam of the young teacher Le Ngoc Hoang Huy (25 years old) is bustling with the laughter of his young students.

The class begins with English songs pronouncing the letters a, b, c or numbers… More than 10 faces from grades 2 to 5 sit upright, attentively studying.

In 2022, when he first started working as a teacher at Tran Van On Primary School (Tam Anh Bac Commune), Mr. Huy realized that his hometown still had many students with difficult circumstances who could not attend summer school, so they were at a disadvantage compared to their peers, especially in foreign languages. With the desire to help students consolidate their knowledge before the new school year, the male teacher decided to open a free English class.

“Growing up in a poor family and having been taught for free by teachers, I now want to do something to give back to life. This is the reason that urges me to bring English closer to poor but studious students,” Mr. Huy expressed.

Huy added that in this class, most of the students lack basic English knowledge. To help them absorb the lessons easily, he had to research and draft his own lesson plans, as well as understand the psychology and learning ability of each student to have a suitable teaching method.

Deduct salary to buy books and pens for students

As a teacher and a Youth Union officer, Huy always wants to bring the best things to poor students. Therefore, in class, he always creates a comfortable, friendly, and open atmosphere for the students like an older brother imparting knowledge to his younger siblings. Every month, the 9X teacher also takes a part of his meager salary to buy pens, notebooks, and candy to give to poor students.

“I teach students in many ways, such as practicing pronunciation, grammar, or playing games to make it easier for them to understand and make the classroom atmosphere more lively. In addition, I also give small rewards to encourage students when they study well,” the young teacher confided.

To encourage the children's learning spirit, Huy thought of giving stickers to those who had good results, worked hard on their homework, or raised their hands to speak... At the end of the week, whoever got 3 stickers would receive a small gift.
For Mr. Huy, seeing students progress in their studies and be polite in their behavior is the happiest thing. Because of his dedication and devotion to poor students, the 9X guy is very loved by his students.

“I really like studying here because Mr. Huy is kind and funny. In addition to reading and writing, we also get to play English games and receive gifts from him. Now, I am no longer afraid of English. I wish I could come here to study every summer,” Chau Gia Han (9 years old) excitedly said.

Standing in the rain waiting for his children to finish school, Chau Ngoc Hai (41 years old) stood outside and saw his two children, Chau Nguyen Quoc Hung and Chau Nguyen Quoc Hieu (10 years old), reading English sentences fluently. His eyes were filled with hope.

“My husband and I are both workers and have financial difficulties, so when I heard about the free English class, I was very happy and immediately asked for my children to come to study. Teacher Huy is very enthusiastic, since studying here, my two children have clearly improved,” Mr. Hai said excitedly.

Speaking about Mr. Huy, Mr. Huynh Tran Minh Phat - Secretary of the Tam Anh Bac Commune Youth Union, commented: "Huy is an exemplary village Youth Union Secretary, enthusiastic about his work. In particular, Huy's opening of a class to teach free summer classes for many poor students is very practical, and is highly supported by the commune Youth Union. Before the summer break, the commune Youth Union supported the announcement of enrollment on the loudspeaker so that any parents in need could register."
