Vietnam Export Import Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Eximbank) continued to announce the fourth reduction in deposit interest rates this month, after reducing interest rates on March 3, 7 and 14.
From the beginning of next week, Monday, March 24, Eximbank will apply a new bank interest rate schedule with the highest interest rate being 5.7%/year, a decrease of 1.1%/year compared to the beginning of February.
Specifically, Eximbank's online deposit interest rates on weekdays (from Monday to Friday) for individual customers are reduced by 0.1%/year for terms from 6-12 months.
Online deposit interest rates on weekends (Saturday, Sunday) for individual customers also decreased by 0.1%/year for terms from 1-12 months.
The new online banking interest rate schedule will be applied by Eximbank to individual customers who deposit savings during the week and receive interest at the end of the term as follows:
Bank interest rates for 1- and 2-month terms are 4% and 4.2%/year, respectively; 3-month term is 4.3%/year; 4-5-month term is 4.6%/year; 6-9-month term is 5.1%/year; 12-month term is 5.3%/year; 15-month term is 5.5%/year; 18-month term is 5.6%/year and bank interest rates for 24-36-month terms will be listed at the highest interest rate of 5.7%/year.
Meanwhile, online deposit interest rates on weekends for individual customers receiving interest at the end of the term are as follows: 1-2 month term 4.5%/year; 3-5 month term 4.55%/year; 6-9 month term 5.2%/year; 12 month term 5.4%/year; 15 month term 5.5%/year; 18 month term 5.6%/year and 24-36 month term 5.7%/year.
Eximbank continues to maintain the same online deposit interest rates on weekdays and weekends for terms from 15-36 months.
The savings interest rate for customers who receive interest monthly is listed at 0.2% lower per year than the interest rate for customers who choose to receive interest at the end of the term. This fixed difference applies to all terms and all days of the week.
With the official reduction of deposit interest rates from next Monday, Eximbank is the first bank to reduce interest rates four times this March.
Last week, from March 17-21, a series of banks reduced deposit interest rates, including: ABBank (March 17), VRB (March 19), Standard Chartered Vietnam (March 19) and Kienlongbank (March 21).
Accordingly, ABBank reduced online and counter deposit interest rates by 0.1%/year for terms from 2 to 60 months. The highest online savings interest rate at ABBank is 5.7%/year (12-month term).
Vietnam-Russia Joint Venture Bank ( VRB ) also reduced its deposit interest rates for the second time this month, with a 0.2%/year reduction in the 18-month savings interest rate and a 0.3%/year reduction in the 24-36 month savings interest rate for individual customers. Currently, the savings interest rates for these terms are all brought down to 5.7%/year, the highest deposit interest rate for individual customers.
In addition, VRB continues to reduce interest rates for corporate customers, with a reduction of 0.1-0.4%/year for terms from 1-36 months. The highest mobilization interest rate is 6.1%/year for terms from 18-36 months.
Most recently, on March 21, Kienlongbank continued to reduce deposit interest rates for the third time this month with a reduction of 0.05-0.2%/year for terms from 1-60 months. The highest deposit interest rate at Kienlongbank is 5.5%/year (12-month online term).
Last week, Standard Chartered Bank Vietnam reduced its over-the-counter savings interest rates for terms from 1 to 9 months by 0.08-0.16% per year. However, the bank also increased its deposit interest rates for terms from 12 to 36 months by 0.04% per year.
Along with that, the interest rate for 12-month online deposits (the only term announced by Standard Chartered Vietnam via online deposits) also increased by 0.14 percentage points, to 4.59%/year.
However, the deposit interest rate listed by Standard Chartered Vietnam is significantly lower than the interest rate listed by the bank itself at the beginning of the year.
Even the current interest rate of Standard Chartered Vietnam is lower than all domestic commercial banks and also lower than the general interest rate level of foreign banks operating in Vietnam.
