Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen The Ky, Chairman of the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Arts, expressed his views on conferring the titles of People's Artist and Meritorious Artist in literature and arts:

"If there are people's photographers and excellent photographers, then there must also be people's writers and excellent writers, people's architects and excellent architects, people's painters and excellent painters...

I dare not "touch" or insult the real People's Artists and Meritorious Artists who have been awarded and will be awarded in the coming years.

I'm only talking about the fields and people who are getting carried away by false titles. We have 10 types of literature and art. And following that trend, many other fields (meaning creative fields) also propose (even demand) to have such titles for themselves. It's chaos!".

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen The Ky, Chairman of the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Arts, expressed his views on conferring the titles of People's Artist and Meritorious Artist in literature and arts.

The Chairman of the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Art added: " I think that the title of artist is currently being "inflated" to some extent, and there are negative consequences of the disease of achievement. To meet the standards and criteria, one must try to participate in competitions, performances, and art festivals. Then one runs through the back door, the front door to "earn" a prize, a medal. That costs a lot of money.

My brothers told me: "Take real gold to exchange for fake gold"! Doing so is corrupting the judges - the "people who hold the scales of justice". But it still has to be done. If you don't do it, you won't get the title, your salary will be delayed, and your salary will also depend on the payment of People's Artists, Meritorious Artists and ordinary artists."

According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen The Ky, talented, dedicated people who have made many genuine and great contributions, they do not ask for anything: "Their works, their names are true values, are lasting values. But life is inherently complicated, full of twists and turns. There are many people, who may have a little talent, but want to put on a large, flashy, and gaudy robe. But "the robe does not make the monk!". Many of our value systems are being turned upside down, being pushed and tilted.

The Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress determined that we must focus on building a system of national values, a system of Vietnamese cultural values, and Vietnamese people associated with Vietnamese families. If we want to implement this orientation of the Party and the State, we must rectify many things, including titles. If every industry demands that I am also the people, I am also excellent, then "the whole village will be in harmony", "the whole village will be happy" but then "the whole village will be flooded".

But in fact, something that is good in small amounts is precious, but too much becomes normal. When everyone you meet is a People's Artist or Meritorious Artist, people will feel that this title no longer has much meaning.

A writer, poet, musician, painter, screenwriter, director... sometimes only needs one truly excellent work to become famous, to be immortal. The vitality of a literary and artistic work does not lie in the "title" of the author associated with it, but because it has touched people's hearts, touched their minds, urged them to action, created a lasting vitality, forever accompanying the years.

When they create, their emotions meet the common sentiments of the people, expressing the aspirations of the whole nation, of the whole era, then it will live forever, forever precious. Do not let the inflation of titles, inflation and reversal of value systems.

The country still has many difficulties, people in many places still lack food and clothing, yet every year there are dozens of beauty contests. Noble and pure beauty always fascinates people, but extravagant and luxurious beauty is just a game of a moment. Here and there, this person or that person has "spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in a fit of laughter".

The Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists has just sent a document to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. In this document, the Association proposed to include photographic artists in the list of subjects eligible for the title of People's Artist and Meritorious Artist.

Meanwhile, the Vietnam Writers Association has the view that writers are not artists, so the Vietnam Writers Association proposed not to consider awarding the titles of People's Artist and Meritorious Artist to writers.
