On the afternoon of August 14, at the conference to summarize the 2023-2024 school year and deploy tasks for the 2024-2025 school year for primary education, the leader of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City said that many solutions will be implemented to overcome the shortage of teachers in schools.
Accordingly, in the 2023-2024 school year, the whole city will have 561 primary schools and primary schools.
For the public school system, the number of students studying 2 sessions/day increased by 4% compared to the previous school year, accounting for 78.8%.
Localities including districts 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, Phu Nhuan, Can Gio and Nha Be districts have a rate of students studying 2 sessions/day reaching 100%.
According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Thien Hoang, Deputy Head of the Primary Education Department (Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training), the shortage of teachers in schools cannot be resolved due to the inability to recruit teachers, especially teachers of gifted subjects, English, and information technology.
One of the reasons for the lack of recruitment is that students are not interested in applying for jobs in the education sector; policies to attract and support teachers are not enough to help teachers stabilize their lives, especially teachers from other provinces.
To solve that difficulty, schools use temporary solutions such as signing contracts and inviting teachers to teach while they have not recruited enough staff to ensure the unit's operations; proactively contacting universities to find the missing teachers to create a recruitment source for the unit.
At the same time, schools continue to develop plans for additional job positions and plans to recruit civil servants according to the needs of the unit, report to the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City and 21 districts to be allocated quotas, determine the roadmap to arrange enough teachers through many forms such as new training, joint training, advanced training to standard qualifications, and additional recruitment for units.
The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City is actively advising the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to submit to the People's Council of Ho Chi Minh City a Resolution on supporting primary education in Ho Chi Minh City, in order to increase policies to care for the teaching staff.
To prepare for the new school year, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City recommends that schools proactively review facilities, repair, upgrade, and supplement facilities and teaching equipment to ensure conditions for performing tasks in the 2024-2025 school year.
Along with that, schools promote socialization to ensure conditions of facilities and equipment for teaching and learning.
Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Bao Quoc said that, in addition to implementing the educational program and professional instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training, the education and training sector of Ho Chi Minh City also made its own mark through many activities such as the Excellent Teacher Competition, the "I Love Vietnamese History" Festival, the Primary School Film Festival with the theme "My Homeland - Inspiration"...
In particular, the pilot implementation of digital transcripts and digital skills education for primary school students is one of Ho Chi Minh City's efforts to take the lead in improving the effectiveness of digital transformation in the field of education and training.
In the 2024-2025 school year, the city will focus on implementing many important projects such as building 4,500 classrooms to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification; expanding the model of smart schools and digital classrooms...
In the 2024-2025 school year, primary schools in Ho Chi Minh City strive to ensure the ratio of 1 classroom/class and 1.5 teachers/class, fully equipped with minimum teaching equipment and organize 2 teaching sessions/day according to regulations.
In addition to teaching compulsory and elective subjects and educational activities according to the regulations of the 2018 General Education Program, schools organize reinforcement activities to help students complete learning content and educational activities to meet the needs, interests and talents of students.
The timetable needs to be arranged scientifically, ensuring a reasonable ratio between teaching content and educational activities, reasonable allocation of time and time during the school day and school week, suitable for the psychology and physiology of primary school students.
