(HNMO) - On May 29, the Vietnam Musicians Association announced the organization of the first National Music Festival in 2023. Accordingly, this festival for music professionals will take place from June 2 to 4 in Long Xuyen city, An Giang province.
The first National Music Festival - 2023 is an activity to celebrate the 135th birthday of President Ton Duc Thang (August 20, 1888 - August 20, 2023), organized by the Vietnam Musicians Association in coordination with the People's Committee of An Giang province.
The festival aims to honor creative talents in the field of musical arts, encourage creativity and advancement in the fields of composition, performance, music theory and criticism, and music training; is an opportunity for musicians and artists in the region and the whole country to meet, exchange professional experiences, exchange newly composed musical works, and introduce regional cultural identities, especially in the Southern region. The festival hopes to contribute to promoting musical composition and performance activities, meeting the increasing demand for art enjoyment of the public in the new era.
According to the Vietnam Musicians Association, the first phase of the festival has the participation of 23 branches and artists from provinces and cities including: An Giang, Bac Lieu, Ben Tre, Ca Mau, Can Tho, Dong Thap, Hau Giang, Kien Giang, Soc Trang, Tien Giang, Tra Vinh, Tay Ninh, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City (Composition Branch 1, Composition Branch 2, Military Musicians Branch), Hai Phong, Thai Nguyen, Ninh Binh.
There are nearly 60 works participating in a variety of genres, such as songs, ensembles, and chamber solos. The content of the works praises the Party, Uncle Ho, Uncle Ton, the Fatherland, and the theme of Vietnam's seas and islands; achievements and the movement to build new rural areas in our country today... Many works carry the sounds of folk music from different regions, especially folk music from ethnic groups in the region.
Along with the performance of new works, the festival also has a discussion on "The art of using folk music in current composition" to find ways to create musical works in harmony with the breath of contemporary life; honor the unique identity of folk music, traditional music of ethnic groups; promote the identity of ethnic music in the region, spread, contribute the national voice on the international music scene...
The opening ceremony (8:30 a.m. on June 3) and the closing and award ceremony (7:30 p.m. on June 4) are expected to be broadcast live on An Giang Provincial Radio and Television Station.
