Turning Point
Born and raised in Kim Dong district, Hung Yen province, Mr. Ha returned to Tuyen Quang to start a career in 1994. After finishing high school, he went to study mechanical engineering, a choice that many people at that time considered "disadvantaged", but for him, it was where his passion was sown.
He started his business with a small mechanical workshop based on a family model. “At that time, I simply thought of doing this job to make a living. But the more I did it, the more passionate I became and I wanted to expand and do it bigger,” he recalled. That was in the early 2000s, when the local mechanical industry was still quite fragmented, and there were not many specialized businesses.
In 2001, after a period of accumulating some capital, he decided to establish Hung Ha Private Enterprise, laying the official foundation for his entrepreneurial journey. Initially, the enterprise still focused on producing traditional mechanical products, but then the opportunity came from his keen observations of the market.

“In 2009, the demand for roofing sheets in Tuyen Quang began to appear but was still very limited. People rarely used them because of low income and difficult conditions. But I thought that when life improved, they would need them. We were one step ahead of the market,” Mr. Ha shared. And so he started to switch to producing roofing sheets, using the name Nam Phuong roofing sheets - a turning point decision.
After two years of trying his hand at the Tuyen Quang market, Mr. Ha realized that demand was gradually increasing, but to develop strongly, he needed to expand the area. In 2011, he boldly invested in building an additional 3,000 m2 factory in Phu Tho . By 2012, the factory officially went into operation. From here, Nam Phuong branded products began to spread strongly in Phu Tho and to Yen Bai... By 2014, 2015, demand for roofing sheets in Tuyen Quang also began to increase strongly. He continued to promote market development and production in Tuyen Quang.
Explaining the name Nam Phuong, Mr. Ha shared passionately: “I wanted a name that was both familiar and suggestive. Nam Phuong - meaning this product can expand to the South, the North, and can compete in any direction.”
“Ton Nam Phuong is now present in most districts and towns in the province and is gradually expanding to neighboring provinces. We compete not by advertising but by truly quality products,” Mr. Ha affirmed.
Be persistent in your career and keep your faith.
Many times in the story, Mr. Ha mentioned the word "difficult" in a quiet voice, he said: "The first three or four years were a very difficult time. Investing in factories and machinery but capital was limited. I had to borrow from the bank, and at that time the interest rate was sometimes up to 20%/year. Making products but not enough to pay the interest, many times I thought about giving up."
But then, instead of giving up, Mr. Ha became more determined. He sought ways to optimize the production process, reduce costs, and focus on product quality to build trust with customers. “Doing business in this industry, and corrugated iron is a long-term product, it cannot be done carelessly. I always tell my colleagues that we must make products that can be guaranteed for 10-15 years for customers to come back,” Mr. Ha shared.

And customers have returned, not only in Tuyen Quang but also in Phu Tho, Ha Giang, Yen Bai... From only having one small factory, the Enterprise now has 7 production factories in Tuyen Quang and Phu Tho. Currently, Ton Nam Phuong is distributed to more than 100 agents in and outside the province such as Phu Tho, Ha Giang, Yen Bai... The Company continuously improves, uses software to support management and operations, and focuses on selecting capable and dedicated factory managers.
Looking to the future with promising plans, he revealed: He is planning to convert the business model from private to joint stock company. This will help the company attract young, qualified and ambitious people to participate in management and development. He hopes that even if he is no longer directly in charge, the Nam Phuong ship can continue to sail, reaching further and further.
From a mechanic to a brand builder, Nguyen Van Ha’s journey was not a bed of roses, but full of resilient steps overcoming the ups and downs. In a place where there seemed to be only cold iron bars and the sound of roaring machines, Ha ignited a dream called “Ton Nam Phuong” - a brand that grew from trust, from relentless patience and from a spirit of perseverance that never gives up in the face of difficulties.
Today, when looking at Nam Phuong corrugated iron sheets covering many roofs in Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Ha Giang or Yen Bai... people do not only see a simple mechanical product, but also see the spirit of daring to think, daring to do, the pride of a hometown worker who always keeps his "trust" with his profession and with people.
Currently, the enterprise is creating jobs for about 50 regular and seasonal workers, with the average income of regular workers ranging from 6 to 7 million VND/person/month. Each year, the enterprise contributes from 700 to 800 million VND to the State budget and regularly maintains a support of 30 to 40 million VND for social security activities in the locality. From 2022 to present, his enterprise has been awarded a Certificate of Merit by the People's Committee of Tuyen Quang city for its achievements in building and developing the local economy.
