The KPNest Chess Tournament, organized by KPNest Bird's Nest Development Joint Stock Company in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Chess Federation, was the first time it was organized but created great attraction. The registration deadline was before November 20, but as of today, it has attracted about 300 players to register to compete. Notably, the tournament has the participation of all the talents of the Vietnamese chess village such as Le Quang Liem, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, Le Tuan Minh, Le Tuan Minh, Nguyen Huynh Minh Huy (male), Pham Le Thao Nguyen, Vo Thi Kim Phung, Luong Phuong Hanh, Nguyen Thi Thanh An, Nguyen Thi Mai Hung (female).
Vietnam's number 1 chess player Le Quang Liem is admired by many young chess players.
Super grandmaster Le Quang Liem, currently ranked 15th in the world, the 2013 world blitz chess champion, has received special attention as he returns to compete domestically for the first time after 10 years of living and studying in the US and mainly competing in international tournaments. "Although the KPNest chess tournament is being held for the first time, through discussions with the organizers, I am impressed with the enthusiasm of the sponsor KPNest as well as feel confident in the thoughtful organization experience of the Ho Chi Minh City Chess Federation. I accepted to participate in the KPNest chess tournament because I want to contribute a small part to the development of chess in Ho Chi Minh City in particular and Vietnam in general. This tournament is not just a normal blitz chess tournament but truly a national chess festival, where children have the opportunity to compete and win prizes like professional athletes. I am really looking forward to returning to Vietnam in December to compete because I know that the tournament will be organized on a truly classy and professional scale," Le Quang Liem shared.
The success of Vietnam's number 1 chess player Le Quang Liem in both studying culture and playing chess is an example for many children to follow.
Inspire the younger generation
When planning to organize the KPNest chess tournament, businesswoman Phan Thi Thanh Truyen - General Director of KPNest Bird's Nest Development Joint Stock Company immediately thought of inviting super representative General Le Quang Liem to attend. "In Vietnamese chess, Le Quang Liem is a symbol of success because he is both a good student and a good chess player. Thanks to chess, Le Quang Liem received a scholarship to study in the US, graduated with honors with 2 university degrees in the US, and was retained at Webster University as head coach of the chess team and Director of the SPICE Chess Academy. I know that Le Quang Liem is the idol of many young chess players in Vietnam, so I and the organizing committee invited him to attend the tournament, interact, and inspire the younger generation with the hope that we will have more talents following in the footsteps of his senior Le Quang Liem", Ms. Phan Thi Thanh Truyen confided.
KPNest Chess Tournament promises to attract many athletes to compete
Vietnam's No. 1 chess player Le Quang Liem sent a message to young players: "When I first started playing chess, I did not think that one day I would study abroad and experience life abroad, have a long-term job that suits my passion and interests. Looking back now, it is not too much to say that chess has brought me many things that I could not have imagined. Therefore, I hope that young chess enthusiasts will always be steadfast and strive to strive, constantly developing themselves. I am sure that chess will be the key to open many doors of opportunity leading to success in their careers and lives."
KPNest Chess Tournament is organized by KPNest Bird's Nest Development Joint Stock Company in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City Chess Federation on December 1, 2024 at The Adora Center Convention Center (431 Hoang Van Thu, Ward 4, Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City) .
The tournament is divided into 12 groups, including 6 groups for men and 6 groups for women. In each group, players compete in 15 games scored according to the Swiss system, 3+2 blitz chess format (3 minutes for each player, plus 2 seconds after each move).
The total prize value is up to nearly 2 billion VND, in which the champion of each group receives 50 million VND, second place 20 million VND, third place 10 million VND.
