Through the films, the contest hopes that readers will better understand the role and contributions of the electricity industry; spread the images and beauty of electricity workers in the South. The organizers hope to receive good and meaningful stories. It could be memories of the first electric lights, memories of typical electricity projects that helped change the face of the locality, or images of dedicated electricians, initiatives on saving electricity, electrical safety...
After liberation, the Southern power grid system at that time was only available in a few districts and towns. Many places used oil lamps, candles, firewood, etc. for lighting. The lives of the people in the South were extremely difficult. Therefore, the top priority of the Southern electricity industry at that time was to expand the power grid system by all means to serve the people's daily lives. In the condition that construction equipment was limited and the terrain was difficult, workers and engineers had to trek through forests, wade through streams, and cross rivers to bring electricity to villages, border areas, and islands, etc., bringing the national power grid to all 21 provinces and cities from Ninh Thuan to Ca Mau Cape. Those 50 years were the youth of countless workers and engineers in the electricity industry with countless hardships.
From the early difficult days, the Vietnamese electricity industry has risen from difficulties with very modest numbers, in terms of scale, system as well as customers. Up to now, the Southern Power Corporation EVNSPC has completed its mission, bringing electricity to all villages, hamlets, remote areas, border areas, and islands in 21 southern provinces and cities, from Ninh Thuan to Ca Mau Cape.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, journalist Tran Xuan Toan - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Tuoi Tre Newspaper - emphasized: "We believe that the clip contest "50 years - Shining the South" will be a great success, contributing to honoring the great contributions of the electricity industry, while at the same time arousing pride and love for the homeland and country in each of us. We hope that the films sent by readers will not only be valuable documents but also inspirational stories, heart-touching images, realistically depicting a journey full of hardship but also full of pride".

Mr. Hoan excitedly expected: "Hopefully through this contest we will receive many good and quality entries about the imprints, stories, and feelings about Southern electricians, about EVNSPC staff; about the projects; the innovation and efforts in EVNSPC's production and business activities over the past 5 decades".
The special highlight of the contest launching ceremony was the exchange with Mr. Tran Trong Quyet - Former Deputy Director of Power Company 2, Former Head of Phu My Power Plant Project Management Board, and Ms. Co Thi Minh Thu - former reporter of Ho Chi Minh City Television, who has been with EVNSPC for more than 45 years!
50 years ago. In August 1975, Mr. Quyet took over the Southern Electricity. Looking back at the half-century journey of the Southern electricity industry, Mr. Quyet emotionally said: "The figures on commercial electricity output, the scale of the Southern electricity system in the beginning compared to now, from very modest numbers to the numbers like now, those of us in the electricity industry are very proud. Because at that time, the power plant had to measure each kilowatt-hour of electricity, had to cut off power every day. We had to calculate every little bit. So to achieve the achievements like now, those of us in the electricity industry are very grateful, very proud".

As a reporter who has been involved with the Southern electricity industry since the early days, Ms. Co Thi Minh Thu was filled with emotions when recalling memories of those difficult years, a time when, as she said, "electricity was extremely difficult and extremely scarce. A time when at 6pm, villages and streets were pitch black."
Witnessing the changes in people's lives, economy and society, Ms. Minh Thu affirmed: "The electricity industry has changed not only people's lives, livelihoods and perceptions but also the economy and society".
The former reporter of Ho Chi Minh City Television recalled the memories of working with the electricity industry, having to walk through red dusty roads, witnessing the engineers and workers using human strength and young strength to pull the electric poles with ropes, overcoming many hardships to bring light to the people. She also witnessed many moments of joy and happiness of the people when they saw the electricity light up their houses and neighborhoods.
