According to Decision 1431/QD-CTN signed by President Vo Van Thuong on November 28 and Decision 724/QD-CTN signed on June 22, 119 individuals were awarded the title of People's Artist (NSND) and nearly 200 individuals were awarded the title of Meritorious Artist (NSUT) in the 10th Meritorious Artist and NSND title awarding ceremony.

On this occasion, the extended family of artist Le Khanh received two pieces of good news when her mother, Artist Le Mai, was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist, and the artist's uncle - Le Mai's younger brother - Meritorious Artist Le Chuc - was awarded the title of People's Artist.

Artist Le Mai was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist at the age of 85 and has 3 talented daughters.

Artist Le Mai was born in 1938 in Hai Phong. She comes from a family where both her father and mother worked in the field of performing arts.

Her father was poet and playwright Le Dai Thanh, who worked in the Central Drama Troupe (now the Vietnam Drama Theater) at the same time as The Lu and Song Kim. In addition to writing, he was also a teacher. His students later included many famous people such as writer Nguyen Hong, writer Nam Cao and Lieutenant General Bang Giang.

Her mother is Dinh Ngoc Anh, daughter of the capitalist Van An Truong of the old Hai Phong land. Dinh Ngoc Anh was also a drama actress in the Gio Bien drama troupe of her husband (Le Dai Thanh). Le Mai's two younger brothers also made a name for themselves in the art field: painter Le Dai Chuc and director, Meritorious Artist Le Chuc.

In 1954, she followed her father to Hanoi to work at the Central Drama Troupe led by writer and playwright Hoc Phi. Here, Le Mai met and married People's Artist Tran Tien.

But due to cracks in their family relationship, the two later divorced. Mr. Tran Tien passed away nearly a year ago. Her three daughters and People's Artist Tran Tien all became famous artists: Le Van, Le Khanh and Le Vi.

After working mainly in the Central Drama Troupe, she returned to work at the Hanoi Drama Troupe (now the Hanoi Drama Theater). Artist Le Mai participated in plays such as The Story of the Guerrillas, Sugarcane Field, July Night, Hanoi in the Beginning of 1946, The Frontline Calls, etc.

Nearly 20 years working at the Hanoi Drama Theater were memorable youthful days for artist Le Mai. However, the veteran artist also regretted that in later years, due to her health, she could not be a stage actress.

In 1982, she retired, and was then invited by several directors to act in TV series such as: Grandma Doesn't Like Pizza, Nep Nha... With each role, she played her role well to express the character's personality.

"In recent years, I probably got old so I didn't receive any more invitations to act in movies. When I was making movies, I still rode a motorbike to the scenes. Now I can't because I have shingles and can't blink. Lately, I've been having joint and leg pain, and it's been difficult for me to walk, so I have to stay home for a while to get treatment," artist Le Mai confided.

At the age of over 80, artist Le Mai is living a peaceful life with her children and grandchildren. She is proud to have 3 talented, beautiful daughters who have achieved certain achievements in the arts.

"I think I'm lucky to have three grown children like that. My daughters Le Van and Le Vi have been backstage for many years to take care of their small family. Only Le Khanh has recently participated in many game shows and acted in movies. My children can do whatever they want, as long as they are happy, I am happy too," she confided.
