Participating in the contest are villages in Tien Duc commune and some communes in Hung Ha district. This contest is both a festival and a ceremony because folk artisans from 8 villages will wrap betel leaves, selecting the most beautiful pieces of betel leaves to offer to Buddha and Saints. For the festival activities, for many years now, competitions: fish dishes, banh chung wrapping, and cooking rice have all had the participation of people from villages in Tien Duc Commune. Particularly for the fish dishes competition, to prepare for this unique and rare custom, many months before Tet, villages have sent experienced people to everywhere to select and buy large fish, usually grass carp, common carp, and silver carp. Fish to be offered to the king must meet all criteria such as not having dislocated scales, broken fins, or broken tails, must weigh at least 3.5kg or more, and must be carefully selected.
