On January 17, 1982, Squad Leader Nguyen Van Luan of the Information Unit, Battalion 9, Regiment 10, Division 339, Military Region 9 heroically sacrificed his life while participating in the fight to sweep away the remnants of Pol Pot troops in the southwestern border.
42 years of martyrs rest at the Martyrs' Cemetery in O Mon District, Can Tho City. According to the wishes of the family and relatives, as a bridge, the Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs of Thanh Hoa Province has connected with the authorities and the representative office of the Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs of Vietnam in the Southern region, moving the remains of martyr Nguyen Van Luan from the Martyrs' Cemetery in O Mon District, Can Tho City to his hometown for free. The transportation of the remains of the martyr and his relatives was by rail.
This is the first time the remains of martyrs in Thanh Hoa province have been transported from the South to the North for free by rail under a joint program between Vietnam Railways Corporation and the Vietnam Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs.
The process of supporting relatives to bring the remains of martyr Nguyen Van Luan back to his hometown was carried out carefully and closely by railway transport units. This is the basis for the program of transporting martyrs' remains by rail to continue to be carried out solemnly and carefully, contributing to spreading the humanistic meaning of the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source" and "Repaying gratitude". Phase 1 of this program will continue to be implemented until December 31, 2024.
