From ancient times to the present, going to pagodas on the first day of the new year has become a beautiful cultural feature of Vietnamese people. Going to pagodas is not only to pray for good luck for oneself and family, but also to express respect to Buddha and ancestors.
Vietnamese people believe that going to the temple at the beginning of the year is not simply to make wishes, but it is also a moment for people to immerse themselves in the spiritual world, leaving behind all the hardships of life and also an opportunity to go sightseeing, enjoy the spring... Joining the crowd, we can see that the custom of going to the temple on Tet has truly become an indispensable need in the spiritual life of the people. From the elderly to the young, everyone clasps their hands to pray to Buddha, some pray for luck, pray for love; some pray for peace and health for themselves and their family members. There are also people who go to the temple just to find a moment of peace, take a few pictures to record the beautiful moments of spring, as a reminder that life is not only full of worries, concerns, and hustle but also many valuable things worth cherishing...
With that in mind, from the evening of the first day until now, the pagodas in the province have been bustling with people. They are local people, groups of tourists from other provinces and even international visitors coming to visit and sightsee. In particular, at these spiritual places, there is absolutely no burning of votive paper, superstitious activities, gambling, or high offerings to Buddha, but everyone is conscious of maintaining order, keeping the environment and the surrounding landscape clean. Burning incense sticks with a sincere heart, praying for luck and health for the family, praying for everyone to have a peaceful new year...
After completing the ancestral worship ceremony at home at the moment of transition from the old year to the new year, Ms. Huynh Thi Hong (Phu Thuy ward, Phan Thiet city) went to the pagoda to pray for a peaceful and lucky year. The wide-open temple door with the ringing bells and the fragrant smell of incense and flowers always makes people's souls strangely peaceful. "At the beginning of the year, I pray for many good things to come to my family so that everyone will have peace and success in work and business," Ms. Hong said.
For young people, going to the temple in early spring is not only to pray for good things for themselves and their families, but also an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful scenery and the purity of sacred places in spring, to understand more about the cultural traditions of the nation and to see their responsibility in preserving that beauty.
Life is becoming more and more modern and civilized, but the cultural beauty of going to the pagoda at the beginning of the year is still preserved by the people, creating a colorful picture in an advanced culture imbued with national identity. Through that, it not only expresses the desire for a happy life, but is also an opportunity to cultivate the Vietnamese spirit to love and cherish the values of the origin, guiding people towards the values of truth - goodness - beauty.
