The Deputy Prime Minister said that tourism is an important economic sector, a “smokeless industry” and a development trend of the future. Currently, there are many rich and diverse forms and models of tourism such as cultural tourism, eco-tourism, resort tourism, discovery tourism, medical tourism, especially rural tourism is gradually becoming popular and developing.

Rural tourism contributes positively to economic transformation, reducing the development gap between rural and urban areas. At the same time, it develops and spreads unique local values, contributing to promoting socio-economic development.

In recent times, Vietnam has paid attention to investing and developing tourism strongly. In the first 11 months of 2024, Vietnam tourism served more than 100 million domestic visitors and welcomed 15.8 million international visitors, an increase of 41% over the same period in 2023 and is aiming for the target of 18 million international visitors in the whole year of 2024.

In the coming time, the Deputy Prime Minister requested to continue to strongly promote the development of tourism in general and rural tourism in particular. Rural tourism in particular needs to be based on core issues such as prioritizing the long-term interests of local communities, providing authentic experiences for tourists, respecting and preserving good values, etc. All development strategies need to preserve natural resources and local cultural heritage.

Vietnam also commits to continue to actively cooperate with the international community and UN Tourism to implement new initiatives and approaches to develop rural tourism according to the motto "each village, one product"; "each person is a tourism ambassador"; "each locality - a unique tourism product".

Also at the first International Conference on Rural Tourism, UN Tourism awarded the certificate of the best tourist village in 2024 to Tra Que Vegetable Village (Hoi An City). The vegetable village was honored based on 9 criteria including: Cultural and natural resources; Promotion and conservation of cultural resources; Economic sustainability; Social sustainability; Environmental sustainability; Tourism development and value chain integration; Tourism management and priorities; Infrastructure and connectivity; Health, security, and safety.

Tra Que Vegetable Village is also the only representative of Vietnam to be awarded this certificate in 2024 and is the third village of our country to be honored by UN Tourism after Thai Hai village (Thai Nguyen) in 2022, Tan Hoa village (Quang Binh) in 2023. This is an opportunity for Tra Que to gradually become a bright spot of tourism in Quang Nam in particular and Vietnam in general.
