Spreading the message of green living from the classroom to the community

More than 1,000 students and delegates participated in the environmental walk event at the University of Forestry (Xuan Mai town, Chuong My district, Hanoi) creating an inspiring 3km journey, connecting individuals with the great goals of society and humanity.

On the morning of March 26, at the Forestry University (Xuan Mai town, Chuong My district, Hanoi), more than 1,000 people walked together on a 3km journey for a green future. The program included students, lecturers, experts, and managers from many domestic and foreign organizations.

The event was organized by the University of Forestry in collaboration with the Vietnam Social Security Project Support Fund (AFV) and ActionAid International in Vietnam.

Small actions, big messages with the theme "Walking for people and the planet" - young people take action to reduce emissions to protect the environment, this year's walking competition is not only a sports activity, but also a strong affirmation of the role of each individual in the green transition process.

Side activities such as learning about sustainable development goals (SDGs), identifying environmental challenges, and integrating scientific information into real-life experiences helped participants not only exercise physically, but also "open up" their awareness.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Pham Van Dien - Rector of the University of Forestry said: "Walking for People and Planet" is one of the activities in which lecturers and students of the University of Forestry fulfill their responsibility for their own health and our planet. With simple steps, young people not only improve their physical strength but also contribute to creating a green lifestyle, minimizing the negative impacts of personal vehicles. Each step today is a strong message to the community about the responsibility to protect the environment and is a testament to the connection between people and nature".

Journalist Ta Viet Anh - Chairman of the AFV Fund Management Board emphasized: "The signing of this cooperation agreement and the organization of the event "Walk for People and Planet" at the University of Forestry, which is closely linked to the mission of protecting and developing forest resources, demonstrates our great concern for a global issue such as environmental protection. Through this, we hope to contribute with the school and the community to build a generation of Vietnamese youth and students with knowledge, skills and specific actions to promote solutions to reduce environmental pollution, adapt and recover from climate change in the short, medium and long term, while effectively implementing sustainable development goals".

Participating in the event for the first time in Vietnam, Ms. Jennifer Vidmo - Secretary General of ActionAid Sweden said: "Today's walk is not just a temporary movement, but the first step in a strong commitment that every small action can create a big change. I am truly impressed by the creative and proactive spirit of Vietnamese youth in promoting sustainable development goals and responding to climate change, promoting potential, improving the quality of life and building increasingly strong communities."

The event “Walk for People and Planet” contributes to encouraging the community, especially young people, to take green actions to reduce emissions and protect the future. Walking is considered a simple but effective solution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

In addition, the event also contributes to educating and arousing the sense of responsibility for the environment among young people through exchange activities, learning about sustainable development goals and the role of forests.

Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Economic & Urban Newspaper Nguyen Xuan Khanh and Mr. Bui Ba Binh - Vice Chairman of the Management Board of the Vietnam Social Security Program and Project Support Fund (AFV) awarded the First Prize of the Photo Contest to team 32.

At the event, ActionAid International in Vietnam, Vietnam Social Security Program and Project Support Fund and the University of Forestry officially signed a cooperation agreement for the period 2025 - 2027.
