Local media reported that two other schools in Montreal both reported finding a bullet hole in their front doors on Thursday morning. It is unclear whether the incidents are related.
But on Wednesday, violence at Concordia University between supporters of opposing sides in the Israel-Hamas conflict resulted in injuries and an arrest, according to CBC News.
Mayer Feig, a member of the Council of Hasidic Jews in Quebec, said the shootings at the schools were intended to intimidate Jews in the city, the news agency reported earlier.
In Toronto, police reported that hate crimes against Jews and Muslims in the three weeks following the first Hamas attack on Oct. 7 more than doubled the number for all of 2022.
In another development, thousands of marchers joined lawmakers in Paris on Sunday to condemn the rise in anti-Semitic acts in France during the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
According to the French government, the protest was called by the leaders of both houses of the French parliament, prompted by the increasing number of anti-Semitic incidents in recent weeks.
Police estimated 105,000 people took part in Sunday's march.
President Emmanuel Macron, who decided not to attend, faced criticism from some politicians. However, he published an open letter supporting the march and condemning the “rise of unbridled anti-Semitism”.
Anti-Semitism protests also took place in other French cities on Sunday, including in Marseille, where around 7,000 people took to the streets according to police estimates.
