Signing of cooperation agreement to prevent blindness for the elderly

In order to continue effectively implementing the goals of blindness prevention activities, striving to eliminate the main causes of blindness for people, especially the elderly, Quang Tri Eye Hospital and the Quang Tri Provincial Association of the Elderly have just signed a cooperation agreement to prevent blindness for the elderly in the area.

Through the practice of eye screening activities in the community conducted by Quang Tri Eye Hospital, it is shown that many elderly people suffer from eye diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, conjunctivitis, corneal ulcers, retinal diseases... This rate is estimated to account for 70% - 80% of the elderly in the community.

Faced with that situation, to have a legal basis for implementing activities to protect and preserve the light of the elderly's eyes, Quang Tri Eye Hospital and the Provincial Association of the Elderly have signed a document to coordinate in preventing blindness for the elderly in the area.

The joint objective is to increase awareness and access of older people to eye prevention, early detection, treatment and rehabilitation services, reduce the rate of preventable blindness, and strive to eliminate the major causes of blindness in older people.

Successfully implement the blindness prevention goals of the Provincial People's Committee for the period 2021 - 2025 among the elderly in Quang Tri province. Reduce the rate of blindness to less than 4 people/1,000 people, including reducing the rate of blindness in people aged 50 and over to less than 12 people/1,000 people, the rate of people receiving consultation and screening for eye diseases to over 30%.

Increase the rate of cataract surgery to over 3.5 people/1,000 people, of which, increase the rate of cataract surgery for people blind due to cataract to over 95%. Increase the rate of diabetic patients examined and monitored for eye diseases to over 75%.
