Head of Vietnamese diplomatic representative agency abroad works with Quang Tri province

This afternoon, April 1, the delegation of heads of Vietnamese diplomatic missions abroad for the 2024-2027 term, led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet, worked with Quang Tri province on the socio-economic development situation, international cooperation needs and proposals of Quang Tri province. Informing the delegation, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam emphasized that in recent years, Quang Tri province has always received attention and support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in various fields. In particular, supporting the province to connect with foreign partners, attract investment, and provide development aid.

In 2024, the province signed 8 international agreements, 13 cooperation documents with foreign non-governmental organizations and international organizations; established friendly cooperative relations and had additional cooperation programs with Champasak and Sekong provinces. The Provincial People's Committee chaired and coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and the Thai Embassy in Vietnam to co-organize the "Meet Thailand" conference in Quang Tri province.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has accompanied the province in organizing the Festival for Peace with the theme "Joining hands to build a peaceful world" in 2024; supported the province in putting historical relics and landscapes on the UNESCO list, contributing to cultural preservation and tourism development; supported the province in managing and protecting the border and promoting cooperation with Laos. The Ministry has also actively supported the province in overcoming the consequences of war, especially in the field of clearing mines and unexploded ordnance...

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam proposed that the Heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad pay attention to and support the connection and promotion of information exchange in the work of responding to climate change. Pay attention to and support the connection of Quang Tri province with potential investors abroad; share information on investment trends of enterprises of the host country so that Quang Tri province has a basis for research, building orientations and appropriate investment promotion programs. Increase support for improving the capacity of officials and students of Quang Tri province through scholarship programs, exchanges, and learning experiences in other countries.

Regarding the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee proposed to pay attention to supporting the province to mobilize and preside over the implementation of the Pacific Friendship Humanitarian Cooperation Program sponsored by the US Government, scheduled to take place in September 2025 (priority plan) or August 2025 (backup plan). Consider and agree to the policy of coordinating with Quang Tri province to co-chair the organization of the "Introducing Quang Tri" conference in 2025 in Hanoi. Support the province to expand the establishment of local-level relations with provinces and cities in countries in the region and the world. In the immediate future, Quang Tri province prioritizes establishing relations with Hiroshima province (Japan), Gangwon province (Korea)...

Recommend the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to help the province access and mobilize aid from international organizations and foreign non-governmental organizations in the fields of: supporting victims of Agent Orange, people with disabilities, education, healthcare, environmental protection and climate change response... in a long-term and sustainable manner. Introduce international press agencies to visit, make films about the image and people of Quang Tri and promote them on international media channels to support the province in introducing and promoting local tourism. Direct affiliated units to pay attention to and support the province in organizing foreign information and foreign cultural activities.

Propose that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs exchange with the US side to increase assistance to Vietnam with information and sites to search for missing Vietnamese soldiers (Quang Tri has implemented this activity quite effectively). Create favorable conditions and guide the Department of Foreign Affairs of Quang Tri province on related procedures to repatriate remains. The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also made recommendations and proposed some specific contents to Vietnamese ambassadors and consuls general abroad.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet acknowledged and took note of the recommendations and proposals of Quang Tri province; at the same time, he affirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad will accompany and actively connect to support and assist Quang Tri province in all fields. "Information about the potential, strengths, achievements as well as the socio-economic development orientation of Quang Tri province is an important basis for the Heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad to have a basis and plan to promote and connect with countries around the world in promoting cooperation with Quang Tri in the coming time", Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet emphasized.
