The Department of Transport has just requested units to survey the current status and immediately take measures to ensure safe operation of weak bridges, bridges with inconsistent load capacity, bridges crossing important waterways, overpasses and road tunnels in the city.
In particular, pay attention to rural traffic bridges and residential suspension bridges that have been damaged for a long time but have not been repaired or maintained; immediately repair damage, deterioration, risks of construction incidents, and traffic safety risks during the rainy and stormy season of 2024. The Department of Transport further noted that when discovering a construction at risk of collapse, causing traffic safety loss affecting the lives and property of traffic participants, units must immediately suspend the exploitation of the construction and take measures to prevent people and vehicles from circulating, warn, and promptly barricade the construction; at the same time, have a plan to organize temporary traffic diversion instead.
The Department of Transport also requested the Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center and the Urban Traffic Management and Operation Center to regularly coordinate with the People's Committee of Thu Duc City, districts and units that are implementing contracts for management and maintenance of road bridges to patrol and inspect the road bridge and tunnel system, especially rural traffic bridges in the area to ensure traffic safety and safe operation during the rainy and stormy season.
