(NLDO) - After receiving the proposal to organize one-way traffic on Cong Hoa Street (Tan Binh District), the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport responded.
On the afternoon of February 13, the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Information and Communications jointly held a press conference to provide information on socio-economic issues.
The Department of Transport has provided information on the traffic organization plan for Cong Hoa Street and Phan Thuc Duyen Street (Tan Binh District) after receiving the proposal to organize one-way traffic on this route.
According to the Department of Transport, Cong Hoa Street (along with Truong Chinh, Pham Van Dong, and Hoang Van Thu streets) are main roads and gateways to Ho Chi Minh City and Tan Son Nhat airport, so the traffic volume on the route is very large.
For many years, Cong Hoa Street has been one of the roads that often experiences traffic jams.
"The rapid increase in traffic has exceeded the road's capacity, leading to frequent traffic jams during rush hour," the Department of Transport acknowledged.
Therefore, to reduce the load on Cong Hoa route, the project to build a road connecting Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa has been implemented and is expected to be put into operation in April 2025.
After this project is put into operation, it will share part of the traffic volume, thereby reducing traffic pressure and congestion on Cong Hoa Street.
The Department of Transport said that in the previous research process, the plan to organize one-way traffic with two axes of Cong Hoa street and the road connecting Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa was considered, evaluated and found to be inappropriate.
The reason is that the traffic on the gateway routes during the morning rush hour and the afternoon rush hour to Ho Chi Minh City has a very large volume of traffic, causing congestion at intersections and less traffic entering the city. During the afternoon rush hour, the traffic situation is the opposite.
In addition, at the beginning of the route intersections such as the intersection of Cong Hoa - Truong Chinh - Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road; the intersection of Hoang Van Thu - Phan Dinh Giot - Phan Thuc Duyen - Tran Quoc Hoan has an area that is not large enough to serve the entire volume of one-way traffic.
"Therefore, the traffic organization in the area, including Cong Hoa Street and the road connecting Tran Quoc Hoan to Cong Hoa Street, after Terminal T3 and the project to build the road connecting Tran Quoc Hoan to Cong Hoa Street are put into operation, will maintain the current traffic organization status" - Department of Transport informed.
The Department will add some solutions at intersections to share traffic volume, ensuring compliance with actual traffic situations.
Along with that, continue to regulate traffic light duration by hour, each time suitable to the actual traffic situation.
In which, using AI artificial intelligence to automatically control and optimize the traffic light system with an AI camera system that recognizes the waiting line to give the most optimal duration at each specific time.
At the same time, flexibly regulate the pull barriers at intersections and steel overpasses to reduce conflicts and stop at traffic lights on Cong Hoa Street to increase the ability of vehicles to escape on the route.
Add some traffic organization solutions to share the traffic volume between Cong Hoa Street and the road connecting Tran Quoc Hoan to Cong Hoa Street to ensure it is suitable for the actual traffic situation.
Enhance the effectiveness of the rapid response team at Tan Son Nhat airport through the traffic surveillance camera system installed on the main roads leading to and from Tan Son Nhat airport to promptly receive and handle information about traffic jams and traffic accidents.
In the coming time, the area around Cong Hoa Street will continue to implement projects on Pham Van Bach, Truong Chinh, Tan Ky Tan Quy, metro line 1, etc. Therefore, the traffic organization in the area will continue to be studied and adjusted at each project implementation time, ensuring that it is suitable for the actual traffic situation.
