Appearing as a guest on the show Confessions, actress Thu Huyen shared stories about her life and career.

Thu Huyen shared in the program Confession.

Thu Huyen confided that she often plays the roles of a shrew, a sour and flirtatious woman. Audiences who meet her in real life are surprised because Thu Huyen is very different from the characters in the movies.

“I don’t know why Huyen often plays those roles. But in real life, I’m just normal. Many audiences who meet me in real life say: Why are you so different in real life? Or are you not Thu Huyen?

But in real life, I am the real Thu Huyen, but on stage and in movies, I have to transform. The roles of being mean, mean, flirtatious or fighting over jealousy are very unique roles.

Until now, I still don't understand why the director always chooses Huyen for such roles. Or maybe the director's eyes see something deep inside me that I myself have not discovered yet," the actress confided.

Thu Huyen admits that she feels relieved every time she is assigned a unique role. Because she doesn't need to act, thinking about the character is as natural as breathing.

However, with the role of lawyer Hoang Kim Dung in the movie "Journey of Justice", she really considered it a challenge.

Kim Dung is old, unmarried, serious and critical of others. “I was quite nervous when I accepted that role. If I couldn’t portray the character, I would feel ashamed. All I could do was observe and study similar characters to pick up bits and pieces for my own character.

After the film aired, many people exclaimed: "I can't recognize Thu Huyen with her comedic features anymore. I think I did it," Thu Huyen confided.

From Polytechnic student to familiar actress

Behind the hit TV series, Thu Huyen has been with the Hanoi Drama Theater for nearly 20 years, since graduating from the University of Theatre and Cinema.

Thu Huyen's relationship with art was quite coincidental. She was a student at the University of Technology. During her final year, Thu Huyen met a friend and was suggested to try to enter the University of Theater and Cinema.

Even when she made this decision, she didn't even know there was such a professional acting school.

“I always thought the actors in the movie were fairies. I admired them so much. I wondered why they could cry, laugh, and act like that…”, Thu Huyen confided.

Thu Huyen was admitted but faced strong opposition from her family, because no one in her family was in the arts. She had to sell gold to go to school, and the few taels of gold she had at that time were saved from the breakfast money her father gave her every day.

Later, seeing Thu Huyen working hard, making progress, and winning a scholarship, her parents gradually calmed down and stopped reacting harshly.

Thu Huyen still remembers the first money she earned while studying at the theater school she used to buy her mother a piece of fabric to make an ao dai. Her mother still keeps it to this day as a souvenir.

In her life, Thu Huyen said that the most difficult time for her was 20 years ago, when Thu Huyen became a single mother at a young age.

There are few movies, and working in the theater has inadequate salary, so she has to run shows to earn extra money, raise her child alone, and rent a house because she doesn't want to bother her elderly parents because acting often requires leaving early and coming home late.

Sometimes on stage, on screen, she always smiles brightly, is quick and active, but behind the stage, many times at night she hugs her pillow and cries alone because of pressure and difficulties.

“I moved out and had a hundred things to worry about. My child came home from school without food and had to be sent to a daycare many times. However, no one could help me but myself. I decided to teach my child to cook and make simple dishes.

That was also the time when I took an extra directing class at the School of Theatre and Cinema, so I was very busy. Luckily, my child is a sensible and independent child. Looking back, I see that my decision was the right one. Every day my child grows up, all the difficulties are put aside. My determination helps me overcome everything,” Thu Huyen said.

After many ups and downs, Thu Huyen surprised and blessed the audience when she revealed that she married her first love in 2017 and then became a mother at the age of 43.

When asked about the feeling of being a mother at the age of U50, Thu Huyen said: "I was 43 when I got pregnant, the baby was born 7 months premature. That is a gift from God. My son is now 4 years old."

Actress Thu Huyen, born in 1977, is a familiar face of the Hanoi Drama Theater. She is remembered for her participation in many famous Tet comedies such as: "Barefoot Tycoon", "Village of Singles".
