Khong Van Quy (37 years old) was prosecuted and detained for illegally exploiting more than 6,000 m3 of sand.
Previously, Lam Ha District Police caught Quy red-handed illegally mining sand under the Da Cho Mo hydroelectric reservoir. At the scene, authorities recorded more than 400 m3 of sand being gathered along the shore waiting to be sold.
Expanding the investigation, the authorities determined that from January to September 2023, Quy illegally mined sand many times, then sold a part to organizations and individuals in Da Lat city, Lam Ha and Duc Trong districts at prices ranging from 150 - 170 thousand VND/ m3 .
The remaining amount was gathered at 3 locations in Phi To commune (Lam Ha district) with a volume of over 6,200 m3 , worth over 2.1 billion VND. According to Lam Dong Provincial Police, the above behavior shows signs of violating regulations on resource exploitation.
When working with the authorities, Quy could not present documents related to the licensing of resource and mineral exploitation. Quy admitted to having equipped the system of generators, suction machines and screening machines to illegally exploit sand on the Da Cho Mo hydroelectric reservoir.
This is the first case of illegal mineral exploitation in Lam Dong province to be prosecuted and one suspect detained for investigation.
