The Dinh River flood drainage system was built to drain floods for the Dinh River area in Nhon Binh and Nhon Phu wards, Quy Nhon City, directly protecting residential, urban and production areas, limiting damage caused by seasonal floods, ensuring the safety of people's lives and property as well as public infrastructure works in the area.

The project has an investment of 316.5 billion VND from the provincial budget, including main items such as expanding and dredging the riverbed, building dykes and embankments to reinforce the riverbank, combining with the construction of a road along the entire route of more than 6 km long, expanding the span of Cho Dinh bridge from 24 m to 45 m, building a 6.3 km long surface drainage system, and a 6.4 km long underground lighting system.

The project starts at the Ha Thanh River junction, upstream of Phu Xuan Dam and ends at Quy Nhon 1 spillway; the design flow is 400 m³/s, the riverbed width is from 40 - 130 m. The embankment system is solidly built, combined with urban traffic roads with a 7 m wide asphalt concrete surface, sidewalks on both sides, and sturdy guardrails.

After expansion, Cho Dinh Bridge will be 45 m long and 11.2 m wide, permanently designed with prestressed reinforced concrete, ensuring flood drainage and convenient traffic.

The project has a total land acquisition area of 26.76 hectares, affecting 372 households, of which 170 households must relocate and resettle. The total cost of compensation and site clearance is 285.5 billion VND, using Quy Nhon City's budget. The project will be implemented from 2021 to 2025, starting construction in March 2022 and completing in December 2024, 7 months ahead of schedule compared to the original plan.

This project will help minimize damage caused by natural disasters, improve living conditions and create a premise for sustainable urban development. The completion of the Dinh River flood drainage system not only helps protect Quy Nhon city from the risk of flooding but also creates a premise for synchronous infrastructure development, attracting investment, and improving the quality of life of the people.
