Nha Trang City Women's Union at all levels: Expanding the blood donation movement to save lives

To build a core force ready to respond and participate in emergency blood donation to save people in emergency situations, the Women's Union of Nha Trang City established the Emergency Blood Donation Club in June 2010 with 65 members. The club members are healthy female cadres and members who have participated in the Blood Donation Campaign and are ready to participate in emergency blood donation when required. Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Quyen - Member of the Standing Committee of the Women's Union of Nha Trang City. Nha Trang, the Club's Chairman said: "In the past, the Club's members have participated in many emergency blood donations to support the treatment of patients in traffic accidents that occurred in Vinh Luong Commune (Nha Trang), Khanh Le Pass (Khanh Vinh District)... At the same time, when receiving a request for emergency blood donation support from the Provincial General Hospital, the Club will contact members to directly donate blood, promptly saving the patient's life. After 15 years of operation, the Club now has 145 members".

Ms. Tran Thi Nhu Hoa has donated blood 36 times.

Ms. Tran Thi Nhu Hoa (Phuoc Hai ward) has been a member of the Club since its inception, and has donated blood 36 times to save lives. Ms. Hoa recalls that on February 14, 2019, while working at the office, she received a request for emergency blood donation support to rescue victims of a traffic accident that occurred that morning in Vinh Luong commune. Immediately, she and another member of the Club rushed to the hospital to donate blood. Thanks to that, the emergency blood supply for the patient was timely supported. She also promoted and mobilized more women to participate in HMTN in many forms such as: Sharing experiences; Post information about blood donation campaigns so that everyone knows the time and place to participate... "I have witnessed a baby being saved thanks to receiving blood from a donor, so I understand more about the meaning of blood donation. Every time I donate blood, I not only share my blood with a patient, but also know my health status. Therefore, I always maintain exercise, eat a balanced diet... to be eligible to donate blood. Every 3 months, I participate in blood donation at hospitals and programs", Ms. Hoa shared.

Actively spread the movement

In order for the voluntary blood donation movement to be increasingly widespread, the Women's Union of Vinh Trung commune integrates propaganda work into the association's activities, local branches; via Facebook, Zalo group. At the same time, the voluntary blood donation target is included in the annual emulation criteria of 5 units of blood/branch. When there is a voluntary blood donation campaign, along with the announcement, the branch presidents also visit the houses to encourage women to participate. The union also coordinates with the commune's grassroots trade union to promote members to participate in voluntary blood donation when there is a program. At the end of the year summary, the Women's Union of the commune will reward branches that carry out the movement well; the branches will reward individuals who actively participate. Thanks to that, the movement has spread more and more widely among cadres and members. Currently, the whole commune has 40 women regularly participating in voluntary blood donation, of whom some have donated 20 to 30 times. In 2024 alone, the women's union members of the commune donated 30 units of blood, exceeding 100% of the assigned target.

In the propaganda work, the Women's Union of Phuoc Dong commune analyzed the benefits and significance of participating in voluntary blood donation so that members could understand clearly. At the same time, it announced and shared about voluntary blood donation programs for members to participate. In addition to participating in voluntary blood donation campaigns of the Nha Trang City Women's Union, members of the commune also registered to donate blood at the Provincial General Hospital, and donated blood urgently with the number of donations from 1 to 24 times/person. In 2024, members of the commune donated 54 units of blood, exceeding the assigned target by 80%.

Ms. Dinh Thi Hang Nga - President of the Nha Trang City Women's Union said that every year, the union coordinates with the Steering Committee for the city's voluntary blood donation campaign to organize a voluntary blood donation campaign for officials and members. Every year, the union mobilizes from 350 to 400 officials and members to participate in voluntary blood donation, collecting more than 350 units of donated blood, exceeding the assigned target (200 - 250 units of blood). In particular, many localities have done this work well and have been commended by the union for many consecutive years, such as: Vinh Nguyen, Phuoc Long, Vinh Hoa, Phuong Sai, Vinh Trung, Phuoc Dong... In the coming time, the union at all levels will continue to promote voluntary blood donation activities and mobilize more members to participate in blood donation and emergency blood donation to have more blood sources to serve the emergency and treatment of patients at medical facilities.
