Design improvements
The Galaxy Z Flip5 features a waterdrop hinge that works brilliantly, light enough to open with one hand but sturdy enough to keep the phone open even at wide angles. This also helps to better hide the crease of the inner display.
The crease on the folded part of the screen has been significantly reduced.
When opened, the phone isn't any thinner than its predecessor, but the removal of the gap has reduced it by 2mm when closed, making it easier to slip into a pocket. The polished aluminum frame contrasts nicely with the color options on it and gives it a premium feel.
The power button/fingerprint sensor combo and volume rocker remain on the right edge of the phone, while the USB-C port on the bottom edge is still surrounded by a speaker grille. The camera lenses still protrude slightly from the main body and are positioned horizontally instead of vertically like before.
Galaxy Z Flip5 ( right ) placed next to Galaxy Z Flip4, it can be seen that the fold has been completed by Samsung much more than the previous generation.
Screen and software
The Galaxy Z Flip5's 3.4-inch front-facing display, called the Flex Window, is three times larger than the Galaxy Z Flip4's rectangular cover display. It's a 60Hz OLED panel with a sharp 720 x 748 pixel resolution and plenty of pixels to display more information on screen at once.
The screen is just big enough for a full QWERTY keyboard, so you can see all your notifications in one place. Quick settings shortcuts and Samsung Wallet are also available with a swipe, so you don't have to flip the phone open as much as you did with its predecessor. You can also use it to frame selfies with the external camera.
Large external display for more information
Opening up the Galaxy Z Flip5, users will find that the internal display is not much different from last year's device. The flexible AMOLED panel has a resolution of 2,640 x 1,080, with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, good viewing angles and vibrant colors. Experience shows that the display is good in harsh sunlight and good with HDR video.
The product uses the OneUI interface based on Android 13 with pre-installed applications. Useful multitasking gestures are also provided, making it easy for users to launch multiple windows with just a few swipes, and Samsung's own app library adapts well to the foldable screen.
Performance and battery life
Equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip for Galaxy, the Galaxy Z Flip5 has superior performance compared to many other high-end smartphones. The product is also combined with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB or 512 GB internal memory for comfortable storage space.
This power allows the Galaxy Z Flip5 to open apps quickly and run smoothly in split mode. Gaming is also lightning fast, with demanding titles like COD Mobile or Diablo Immortal running smoothly at high frame rates.
The processing performance of the Galaxy Z Flip5 is quite powerful.
Although it still uses the same 3,700 mAh battery as its predecessor, thanks to a slightly more energy-efficient chip, battery life has improved. In addition, being able to use more applications via the small external screen also helps save more battery.
However, one drawback of the Galaxy Z Flip5 is that the device offers a slightly slower charging speed than other foldable phones. The device still only stops at a maximum charging capacity of 25W via USB-C, allowing charging from 0 - 50% in half an hour.
Camera
The Galaxy Z Flip5 retains the same dual-camera setup as its predecessor, including a 12MP wide-angle with an f/1.8 aperture and a 12MP ultra-wide with a 123-degree field of view, allowing users to capture more of the scene in each shot. The lenses have been upgraded to reduce flare, and the image processing algorithm has also been updated to improve noise when shooting or recording videos in low light.
The rear camera cluster is placed horizontally instead of vertically like the previous version.
In daylight shooting conditions, Samsung has improved the dynamic range of photography, preserving more detail in the clouds and sky while exposing the foreground well. Colors are vibrant and impressive, bringing realism to users.
