Cu Kuin district has 24,885 hectares of agricultural land, of which perennial crop land is 19,074 hectares.
To maximize potential and increase economic value per unit area, the district proactively coordinates with universities and science and technology transfer centers to put into production many new crop varieties with higher productivity and quality.
At the same time, promote the conversion of crop structure, encourage people to increase intercropping of valuable crops such as durian, avocado, areca in coffee and pepper gardens. Intercropping not only helps increase income on the same area of land but also creates diversity in production, minimizing risks when the agricultural market fluctuates.
Mr. Nguyen Trung Thanh (second from left) introduces his family's multi-tree model. |
Mr. Nguyen Trung Thanh's family (village 7, Ea Ning commune) has more than 2 hectares of land that is effectively exploited by intercropping many types of crops such as coffee, pepper, lychee, durian, areca and combined with goat farming. Mr. Thanh shared that intercropping and raising livestock not only brings a stable source of income but also creates a sustainable production model. Goat manure is used to fertilize crops, reduce investment costs and protect the environment. Last year, his family harvested 3.8 tons of coffee beans, 1.2 tons of pepper and 3 tons of durian (the two types of trees, lychee and areca, have just been planted and have not been harvested yet). His family's total income after deducting expenses reached over 1 billion VND. This is an impressive number, showing the effectiveness of the production model that Mr. Thanh is applying.
Similarly, the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Chuyen (village 6, Ea Tieu commune) is also a typical example of effectively exploiting long-term industrial crops. Her family has more than 1 hectare of land, intercropping many types of crops such as pepper, coffee, durian, areca and sophora flowers. Ms. Chuyen said that areca is harvested from June to October, durian is harvested in September and October, coffee in November and December; sophora flowers are harvested year-round. Intercropping helps her family have a steady income throughout the year, not depending on a single crop, and at the same time creates continuous employment. The prices of agricultural products have increased recently, so she is very excited and motivated to continue investing and developing this model.

To increase the added value of agricultural products and create branded products, Cu Kuin district has focused on building production linkage chains and developing OCOP products. Currently, the district has built 14 production linkage chains, linked to product consumption between enterprises inside and outside the province with cooperatives, cooperative groups and people. In addition, some enterprises take advantage of local raw materials for production and deep processing, creating good quality products with clear origin, bringing brand to local products. The district's planning work is always focused on, especially planning for the development of long-term industrial crop production, creating concentrated raw material areas, facilitating the production, harvesting, processing and commercialization of products...
According to Secretary of the Cu Kuin District Party Committee Phuc Binh Nie Kdam, in order to exploit the advantages and sustainably develop long-term industrial crops, the district has determined to reorganize the production of key industrial crops associated with geographical indications, traceability of origin and building growing area codes; develop and form concentrated commodity production areas, build infrastructure, process and promote trade.
In addition, develop forms of cooperation and production linkage; increase the proportion of production area towards applying good agricultural practices (GAP), organic agriculture; develop the production of key industrial crops in a circular and environmentally friendly direction.
At the same time, promote the application of new science and technology in production; form and develop diverse methods of agricultural product consumption in a sustainable chain, apply e-commerce and traceability in accordance with local production conditions and requirements of the consumer market...
It is estimated that by 2025, the value of agricultural production (at 2010 comparative prices) in the district will reach 2,918 billion VND, an average annual increase of 4.16%, an increase of 1.26 times compared to 2020; the average production value per capita will reach over 118 million VND/year. |
