Tuy Phong: Balancing water resources for summer-autumn crop production

At the same time as the whole province, Tuy Phong district is expected to plant about 2,000 hectares of rice in the 2025 summer-autumn crop. Depending on the amount of irrigation water available, specialized units will focus on allocating planting schedules for each region. For Tuy Tinh and Da Bac areas, because the winter-spring crop has ended and water resources are balanced, farmers will produce earlier this summer-autumn crop.

After calculating the water balance, farmers in Tuy Phong district are currently preparing conditions for the summer-autumn crop in 2025. However, due to the drought situation, the risk of water shortage may occur, so the authorities recommend that farmers focus on planting simultaneously to bring about the highest efficiency. Recorded at Tuy Tinh field, in the Long Song lake area, these days the atmosphere in the fields is quite bustling and busy. After finishing the winter-spring crop, farmers are currently focusing on plowing to prepare for the summer-autumn crop.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Xuan, a farmer in Lien Huong town, Tuy Phong district, said: “My family’s rice cultivation area is 7 sao. After the harvest, I proactively plowed the land, prepared seeds, and waited for water to quickly plant seeds to keep up with the schedule.”

Mr. Pham Van Den, Phu Lac commune, expects: "With 1 hectare of rice, we are preparing to plant summer-autumn crops and expect a favorable production season."

In order to compensate for the previous crops that resulted in low rice yields due to pests and diseases, entering this summer-autumn crop, the agricultural sector of Tuy Phong district recommends that people develop high-quality commercial rice production areas, especially applying scientific advances and introducing high-yield varieties into production, such as ML48, TH6, Dai Thom 8, ST24 and ST25. At the same time, farmers are also advised to regularly visit their fields to promptly detect and prevent pests and diseases.

To proactively produce the summer-autumn crop, Tuy Phong District People's Committee has recently agreed on the policy to organize the production of the summer-autumn rice crop in 2025 in the Tuy Tinh canal area, Song Long Song lake, with the sowing time starting from April 10 to April 25, 2025. To implement the organization of production according to the plan, ensuring the set quality, the District People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Binh Thuan Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited (Tuy Phong Branch); People's Committees of Phu Lac, Phuoc The, and Lien Huong communes and towns to promptly notify production units and people to focus on dredging canals, preparing the land to organize sowing according to the plan, ensuring the timely crop season. The Department of Agriculture and Environment monitors, guides, and directs the organization of production according to the plan; proactively and promptly resolves effectively any problems arising during the organization of production.

Relevant units coordinate to regulate water, provide sufficient water to organize production according to the set plan, ensure economical and effective water use. Regularly monitor the situation of diseases and pests to have recommendations and instructions for production units and farmers to know and implement. Particularly, communes and towns including Phu Lac, Phuoc The, Lien Huong coordinate with Binh Thuan Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited (Tuy Phong Branch) to regulate and supply water for production in a timely, effective and economical manner. Monitor recommendations of competent agencies to remind farmers to regularly visit fields, conserve water... for effective production.

Currently, the Tuy Phong District Agricultural Technical and Service Center has announced the summer-autumn crop hopper avoidance schedule in the Tuy Tinh - Long Song Lake canal area to communes and towns. Thereby, it is recommended that the People's Committees of Phu Lac, Phuoc The communes, and Lien Huong town organize concentrated and simultaneous seeding according to the plan and finish before April 25, 2025. At the same time, it is noted that the rice fields need to concentrate and synchronize seeding, avoid scattered and prolonged sowing, creating a bridge for brown planthoppers to spread and cause damage and transmit viruses that cause yellow dwarf and rice leaf curl. Regarding cultivation, pay attention to the amount of seed sown at 120 - 150 kg/ha, when the rice is 8 - 10 days after sowing, apply the first top dressing, apply the IPM, ICM, 1 must 5 reduction process on rice plants...
