Opening of the exhibition "The world needs female superheroes"

On the evening of October 17, at the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum, the Embassy of Spain in Hanoi in collaboration with the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum held the opening ceremony of the exhibition "The world needs female superheroes".

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Da Nang City Nguyen Thi Hoi An said that with the aim of promoting good cooperation, cultural exchange and enhancing common understanding between the people of Da Nang, Vietnam and Spain, this exhibition is an opportunity for the public of Da Nang to have interesting experiences about the culture and life of the country and people of Spain; especially women - the "superheroines" portrayed by the unique and creative drawings of female artists.

Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Da Nang City Nguyen Thi Hoi An spoke at the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

With 43 works by 43 Spanish artists and 21 works by 19 Vietnamese artists, the public will approach and explore modern Vietnamese - Spanish art. The exhibition is also an affirmation that women can and have always been heroes - from those who fight for equality, protect the family, to women who are pioneers in science, art and many other fields.

"This is not only an art event but also a cultural bridge, a meeting place between modern art of Vietnam and Spain, enhancing the voices of female authors who are receiving attention in Vietnam and Spain. Hopefully, this exhibition will be a stepping stone to open up other meaningful opportunities for cooperation and cultural exchange in the future between Da Nang, Vietnam and Spain", Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoi An shared.

Ms. Carmen Cano De Lasala, Spanish Ambassador to Vietnam, spoke at the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

Spanish Ambassador to Vietnam - Ms. Carmen Cano De Lasala shared that the exhibition will be held for the first time at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum in 2022 on the occasion of the Spanish National Day. Inspired by the success of this exhibition as well as the enthusiastic reception of the audience in Hanoi, the Embassy decided to bring the works to introduce in other regions of Vietnam, specifically in Da Nang this year and possibly in Ho Chi Minh City next year.

The second "The World Needs Female Superheroes" exhibition opened on the occasion of Spanish National Day on October 12 and Vietnamese Women's Day on October 20.

"We present an exhibition of comics by female authors, including 64 works by 62 Vietnamese and Spanish authors, with a variety of themes and styles. The works on display are a testament to the endless creativity of women and their contributions to society and art," said Ms. Carmen Cano de Lasala.

The exhibition "The World Needs Female Superheroes" takes place at the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum from October 17 to November 6, 2024 and is open to the public for free starting October 18.

“The World Needs Female Superheroes” is an exhibition that aims to highlight and emphasize women's contributions to society, while creating an artistic dialogue between popular comic book authors in both countries.

The exhibition includes 64 works by 62 female authors and groups of female authors from Vietnam and Spain. The works introduced are diverse in form and content, addressing topics such as feminism, love, friendship, society,... and are the clearest evidence of the limitless creativity of women, especially in the field of comics - the ninth art with great potential for development in Vietnam.

“The World Needs Female Superheroes” is an exhibition organized by the Embassy of Spain in Vietnam, in collaboration with the Spanish Association of Comic Book Authors and Herstóricas Association, the Comicola community in Vietnam and the Da Nang Museum of Fine Arts.
