Proposal to not teach after 8pm
According to Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the education sector of Ho Chi Minh City is consulting and collecting opinions from relevant departments and units to draft regulations on extra teaching and learning before proposing to the City People's Committee, including regulations on the time of organizing extra teaching and learning. It is possible to stipulate that extra teaching and learning establishments are not allowed to organize classes after 8:00 p.m.
Explaining this regulation, Mr. Minh said that according to the Department of Education and Training's calculations, after students finish school (around 4-5pm), they need to have time to comfortably travel home, eat, rest, and then go to the tutoring center if needed. However, all these activities ending before 8pm is appropriate.
"Currently, many schools in Ho Chi Minh City teach two sessions. Students are at school all day, and if they take extra classes, they need to do so in moderation to ensure their health. Therefore, ending extra classes before 8 p.m. is reasonable so that students have time with their families," said the Chief of Office of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.
According to statistics, currently 93% of primary, secondary and high schools in Ho Chi Minh City have 2 sessions per day.
'Tighten' management of extra teaching and learning
Ho Chi Minh City currently has 1,300 tutoring centers with 3,300 registered teachers.
Nearly two months after Circular No. 29 regulating extra teaching and learning was issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, the Department of Education and Training on April 11 launched the portal for managing extra teaching and learning. The users of this portal are tutoring centers, schools, parents, and students.
In particular, the tutoring center will organize registration, monitoring and management of tutoring activities according to regulations. The school will monitor and manage information of teachers and students registering for tutoring in the school.
Parents of students will follow information and register for online tutoring through this portal.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training is responsible for managing all administrative accounts of the Department of Education and Training, People's Committees of wards, communes, towns, general schools, and tutoring facilities. At the same time, it must provide an overview of data and tutoring activities throughout the city through statistics and visual charts.
With this portal, the Department of Education and Training plans to collect statistics on violations of regulations on extra teaching and learning for each case of teacher and extra teaching and learning center. The Department also strives to manage the amount of basic information of teachers, teaching centers, and teaching forms for each unit.
