Opening of the Journey to the Land of Fire Quang Tri 2024 race

On the evening of June 15, the 2024 Journey to the Land of Fire Quang Tri Marathon officially opened at Liberation Square on the south bank of Thach Han River, Quang Tri town, Quang Tri province.

According to the People's Committee of Quang Tri province, this is an important event towards the activities to celebrate the 2024 Peace Festival, which will be held for the first time in Quang Tri province.

Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam spoke at the opening ceremony of the "Journey to the Land of Fire" race.

Quang Tri Marathon 2024 - "Journey to the Land of Fire" organized by Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee in coordination with Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper, attracted the participation of nearly 3,000 athletes from provinces, cities and sectors across the country.

The race also had the participation of athletes from the Vietnam Athletics Team such as Nguyen Thi Oanh, Nguyen Trung Cuong; 6 international athletes from Japan, Australia and India.

According to the Organizing Committee, the Quang Tri Marathon 2024 - Journey to the Land of Fire is expected to contribute to promoting the development of sports tourism, spreading the running movement, building a healthy lifestyle, improving community health with the criteria of being healthy to build and protect the Fatherland.

The event will also contribute to stimulating tourism, promoting the image, land, people, and scenic spots of "The Land of Fire" Quang Tri, attracting domestic and international tourists to visit, experience tourism products, and reminisce about the old battlefield.

Delegates at the "Gratitude Night" program with the activity of releasing flower lanterns on Thach Han River on the opening night of the race.

In particular, all revenue from BIB sales at this race will be donated to the Quang Tri Province Gratitude Fund.

Quang Tri Marathon 2024 - Journey to the Land of Fire opens on the evening of June 15 and competes on June 16, with 3 distances of 21km, 10km and 5km.

On the evening of June 15, the "Gratitude Night" program also took place within the framework of the opening ceremony of the "Quang Tri Marathon 2024 - Journey to the Land of Fire" race, with the activity of releasing flower lanterns on the Thach Han River and an art program to commemorate the heroic martyrs who sacrificed for the Fatherland and the historic land of Quang Tri.

The Organizing Committee presented gifts to policy families at the program.

Mr. Hoang Nam, Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee, said that the Quang Tri Marathon 2024 - "Journey to the Land of Fire" is an activity that aims to create an important premise in forming an annual professional marathon in Quang Tri.

In particular, with the theme "Journey to the Land of Fire", to honor the value of peace, commemorate and pay tribute to the heroic martyrs who heroically sacrificed for the survival of the Fatherland, this race will focus on organizing activities to honor the heroic martyrs, giving gifts to families of policy beneficiaries and people with meritorious services to the revolution.

In this year’s tournament, the 5km and 10km races take place around Quang Tri Citadel. In the 21km race, athletes start from Dong Ha City and the destination is Quang Tri Citadel.

Athletes burn incense and visit the Bell Tower to commemorate heroic martyrs at Quang Tri Citadel on the afternoon of June 15.

The maximum completion time for the 21km distance is 3 hours 30 minutes, the 10km distance is 1 hour 40 minutes and the 5km distance is 1 hour 15 minutes.

Based on the current Athletics Law and the regulations of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), the Organizing Committee will select 7 athletes with the best achievements for men and women in 3 distances to award with a total cash prize worth over 100 million VND and gifts from sponsors.
