Opening of the 12th Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in Ho Chi Minh City

On the morning of October 2, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City opened the 12th Congress of the City Fatherland Front (term 2024-2029). Attending the opening ceremony were Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Ho Hai; Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee - Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Phuoc Loc; representatives of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council - People's Committee and 426 delegates.

In his opening speech, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc said that over the past 5 years, the whole world and the country, especially Ho Chi Minh City, have gone through a difficult period, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“During the days when we were preparing to hold the congress, storm No. 3 caused many losses to the people of the northern provinces. The Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front continued to call for hearts of gold to turn to the people in difficulty. The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the City would like to express gratitude for the sentiments and noble and practical gestures of the people, soldiers and the entire political system,” said Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc.

Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc added that the 12th Congress (term 2024-2029) will focus on evaluating the work of building the great national unity bloc in the city and the contributions and solidarity of the people of all walks of life to the cause of building and developing the city in the past 5 years; focus on discussing and negotiating to unify the action program for the term 2024-2029, electing the Committee and the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee for the 12th term, and negotiating to elect a delegation to attend the 10th Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

At the congress, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee Nguyen Thanh Trung reported on the results of the activities of the Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee for the 2019-2024 term and the 12th action program (term 2024-2029). Accordingly, in the 2019-2024 term, the great national unity bloc has been continuously consolidated and promoted, strengthening social consensus, building a solid foundation for the stability and development of the city.

The work of propaganda, mobilization, gathering and uniting all classes of people has been strengthened. The campaigns and emulation movements launched and implemented by the Front have focused on key points, closely following the requirements of political tasks and the important socio-economic goals of the city. The work of social supervision and criticism, participation in Party building and government building has been given attention; the role of representing and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of the people, participating in preventing and combating corruption and negativity has been strengthened. International solidarity activities and expanding people-to-people diplomacy have been promoted with many changes.

Also according to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung, under the leadership of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee after nearly 40 years of renovation, the city is proud to be the locality that initiated many movements that have received the support, response and participation of all classes of people and spread throughout the country, such as: the movements "Repaying gratitude", "Taking care of heroic Vietnamese mothers", "Building houses of gratitude and charity", "Eliminating hunger and reducing poverty", "All people unite to build a new life in residential areas", "For beloved Truong Sa, for the frontline of the Fatherland" ...

During the 2024-2029 term, the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Ho Chi Minh City will organize the development and implementation of key targets, projects, works and programs.

Specifically, 5 targets include: every year striving for 100% of residential areas to organize the "National Great Unity Day"; each residential area has at least 1 practical project or work to serve the community. Every year striving for over 50% of residential areas to organize cultural festivals aiming at the goal of the people, by the people, for the people and projects promoting village solidarity. Mobilizing support for the "For the Poor" Fund, striving to reach 650 billion VND, contributing to the city's effective implementation of the sustainable poverty reduction program. Mobilizing support for the "For the Homeland's Seas and Islands - For the Frontline of the Fatherland" Fund, striving to reach 200 billion VND, contributing to the political system in taking care of the army and people in coastal areas, islands, border areas and military rear work. Coordinating to build 50% or more of residential areas to be recognized as "Solidarity, solidarity, self-management" residential areas.

In addition to the 5 targets, there are also key projects, works and programs, including: Project No. 06-DA/TU dated August 20, 2021 on "Enhancing the role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front of the City and the People in supervising Party organizations, Party members and activities of the City's authorities at all levels in the period 2021-2030" (phase 2). Project "Enhancing the role and effectiveness of the Front's Working Committee in the new situation". Project "For an environmentally friendly city based on the community". Program "Joining hands - For a city of love, tolerance and development".
