This resort has many different room types, with rooms priced as high as 8.8 million reduced to 4.4 million VND/night.

Room occupancy rate drops sharply

The sales director of a long-standing 4-star resort in Phu Quoc told Thanh Nien that there has never been a year when room prices have decreased during the peak summer season. The resort is located in the west of the island, near the center of Duong Dong, convenient for travel, with about 100 rooms and villas, and is selling at a 35% discount. For example, a room priced at 2.7 million VND is reduced to 1.7 million VND; a room priced at 3.4 million VND is reduced to 2.2 million VND/night...

"Our resort is currently only at 50% occupancy, and is expected to be fully booked this summer at 70% of last year's levels. The reason is that Phu Quoc is suffering a heavy impact on its image, and airfares are still high. For foreign visitors, the impacts of the global economic recession, geopolitical crisis, and flight restrictions also affect the destination of Phu Quoc," he said.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Chi, a tourism expert, commented that Phu Quoc is a saturated destination. Therefore, when new destinations appear, Phu Quoc immediately faces competition. For many years, Phu Quoc has been the choice of many families and young people looking to check-in, but recently, it has been competed by a number of new destinations in terms of both image and price. One of them is Phu Quy Island, Mui Ne of Binh Thuan.

For guests traveling in a larger family group, the more cost-effective the food and accommodation will be," Mr. Chi shared.

According to Mr. Chi, the trip is "worth every penny", not to mention that tourists can also enjoy the pristine scenery, fresh and cheap seafood, gentle people, and a lifestyle on the island that is not crowded or chaotic. "With the total cost per person mentioned above, if I go to Phu Quoc, I can only buy 1 plane ticket. Although Phu Quoc has many services and places to visit and have fun, tourists have become accustomed to it over the years," said Mr. Chi.

Therefore, Mr. Chi believes that the high price of Phu Quoc services and high transportation costs have affected this destination in the past and the upcoming summer. Not to mention the psychological impact on tourists when they receive some negative information about the destination.
