According to the latest information from the National Tourism Administration, in the first month of the new year, Vietnam tourism had an impressive start. The number of international visitors reached a record high, estimated at nearly 2.1 million arrivals.
This number is even higher than January 2020 (2 million visitors), the golden time for Vietnamese tourism before being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
With 575,000 arrivals, China returned to being the number 1 market sending visitors to Vietnam, accounting for 27.7% of total international visitors.
According to the Department of Tourism, the recovery of the Chinese market is thanks to many activities connecting and opening up the market, enhancing cooperation and exchange of tourists between the two countries.
Holding the second position is South Korea with more than 417,000 visits. Following are the markets of Cambodia, the US, Taiwan, Japan, Australia, India, Malaysia, Thailand...
The main growth driver in January 2025 came from the large Chinese market, up 137.4% over the same period in 2024, the Cambodian market also increased sharply by 168.6%; the US increased by 22.3%...
Southeast Asian regions also recorded significant growth, with the number of Filipino visitors to Vietnam increasing by more than 100% and Laos by nearly 100%.
January 2025 continues to witness positive growth from unilateral visa-free European markets.
According to the Department of Tourism, the growth from these markets continues to show high efficiency from the policy of increasing the temporary stay period from 15 days to 45 days for 13 countries with unilateral visa exemption according to Resolution 128/NQ-CP of the Government, effective from August 15, 2023.
Welcoming a record number of nearly 2.1 million visitors in the first month of 2025 is the result of the efforts of the entire Vietnamese tourism industry over the past time, in the context of the Asian tourism industry recovering at a lower rate than other regions in the world.
