According to the Straits Times on April 17, the Royal Thai Police (RTP) officially deployed the first artificial intelligence police robot - AI police cyborg 1.0 - in Nakhon Pathom province to enhance security and monitor crowds during the Songkran festival.

The robot was introduced on April 16, the result of cooperation between Police Region 7, Nakhon Pathom Provincial Police and local authorities.

The robot is named Police Colonel “Nakhonpathom Plod Phai”, which means “Safe Nakhon Pathom”.

The robot is equipped with a 360-degree AI camera system, integrated with image analysis technology and directly connected to the provincial Command and Control Center.

Thanks to this, the robot can process data directly from surveillance camera systems and surveillance drones around the organization area.

The robot can also track and monitor suspects throughout the event, detecting behaviors that could lead to violence or disturbances such as fighting and assault. It is also capable of detecting weapons such as knives, wooden sticks and eliminating water guns.

In particular, this robot can also use facial recognition technology to identify high-risk individuals, wanted individuals or those with suspicious behavior. The robot also analyzes other factors such as clothing, body shape and gender to support more accurate identification.

When detecting a suspicious object, the robot will immediately send a warning to officers at the scene for timely response.

The appearance of police robots marks a new step forward in applying technology to ensure public security in Thailand, especially during crowded festivals such as Songkran. This is expected to be a pilot model for the widespread deployment of AI police robots at major events in the future.
