The 2024 Paris Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024 in France. This is the third time France has hosted the Olympics after 1900 and 1924, becoming the second city to host three Olympics after London (UK). The 2024 Paris Olympics will welcome 206 countries and territories to compete. It is expected that about 10,500 athletes will appear here.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Organizing Committee revealed that in preparation for this event, the opening ceremony will be a bold and joyful program that no previous event has dared to carry out. The opening ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m. on July 26 local time (1:30 a.m. on July 27 Vietnam time). Mr. Tony Estanguet - President of the Paris 2024 Olympic Committee said that the Organizing Committee chose that time to make the most of the light when the sun sets at around 9:35 p.m. on the same day. With the theme "Together, for a better future", the Paris 2024 Olympics is not only a sporting event but also a call for peace, solidarity and joining hands to protect the environment.

For the first time, the opening ceremony will not take place in a stadium. Instead, boats will carry thousands of athletes and performers in a 6-kilometer parade on the Seine River. The starting point is the Austerlitz Bridge, passing many famous French landmarks such as Notre Dame Cathedral, Pont des Arts, Pont Neuf and stopping near the Eiffel Tower.

The Eiffel Tower will be the finishing point of the opening ceremony.

The organizers added that they will take advantage of historical sites, riverbanks, sky, and water to create a colorful space for music, dance, and performance. However, details about some of the artists performing in the Paris 2024 Olympic Opening Ceremony are still kept secret. Mr. Thomas Jolly, Artistic Director of the Opening Ceremony, shared that all the performances of the program will be a large mural honoring Paris (France).

Notably, the opening ceremony will be attended by more than 100 heads of state from around the world. About 10,500 athletes and 222,000 fans will receive free tickets, while the other 104,000 fans will have to buy tickets.

But if fans can’t watch the opening ceremony live, they can still watch the performance team’s journey up close because the boat carrying the athletes is equipped with cameras. In addition, 80 giant screens are also installed along the route.

Strict security

Holding the opening ceremony in the heart of an iconic city like Paris provides a stunning backdrop, but having so many fans, heads of state and athletes also presents a major security challenge.

Police have begun to be deployed along the banks of the Seine.

Organizers said some 45,000 police officers would be deployed to secure the ceremony, including special intervention forces. Snipers would be stationed on the rooftops of buildings along the route. Anti-drone systems would also be deployed.

Spectators and locals watching the opening ceremony will need to carry QR-coded identification wherever they go near the river. Cars will not be allowed in the central area, except in special cases. Metro stations and nearby bridges that are not in use will be closed. No planes will be allowed to fly over Paris for nearly four hours, unless they are part of the ceremony.
