Israel begins operation in southern Gaza

Israeli ground forces have begun operations in southern Gaza, with at least one tank, according to video obtained by CNN . There have also been reports of Israeli raids in Jerusalem and clashes at the Israel-Lebanon border.

Meanwhile, on Monday, Palestinian telecommunications company PalTel also said that telecommunications services in Gaza City and other areas in northern Gaza had been cut off.

An explosion in northern Gaza: Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, head of pediatrics at Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, said Monday that an airstrike on the entrance to the hospital killed 10 people. Video taken Sunday evening showed several bodies lying on the sidewalk after the explosion. CNN has not been able to confirm the cause of the explosion and has contacted the IDF for comment on the airstrikes around the hospital. The Hamas government's media office in Gaza confirmed Monday that Israel had struck the hospital.

Two suspected militants killed: IDF soldiers and border police shot dead two suspected militants Sunday night in the West Bank city of Qalqilya, the IDF said. One of the two killed – 29-year-old Emad Alaa Nezal – had “carried out several recent gun attacks on security forces,” the IDF said. The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed that two Palestinians were shot and killed during an Israeli military operation in Qalqilya, but did not confirm the identities of the dead. The ministry said the bodies of the two dead had been confiscated by the IDF.

Several Israeli soldiers killed: Three Israeli soldiers have been killed fighting Hamas in Gaza, according to the IDF, bringing the total number of Israeli casualties in the enclave to 69 since the operation began in October.

Clashes on the Israel-Lebanon border: The IDF said on Monday that three Israeli soldiers were wounded by a mortar explosion fired from Lebanon. Several shells were then fired at an IDF outpost in the Yiftah area, a kibbutz in northern Israel. At the same time, the Lebanese government's National Information Agency reported a concentrated Israeli artillery attack on several border settlements.
