5 localities to achieve growth breakthrough in the first quarter of 2025

In the first quarter of 2025, Vietnam's GDP recorded a growth rate of 6.93%. Among the 43 localities exceeding the national average growth rate, Bac Giang, Hoa Binh, Nam Dinh, Da Nang, and Lai Chau provinces ranked in the leading positions.

According to information from the General Statistics Office - Ministry of Finance, Vietnam's economic situation in the first quarter of 2025 is basically stable, inflation is controlled, growth is promoted, and major balances of the economy are ensured.

Gross domestic product (GDP) in the first quarter increased by 6.93% over the same period last year, the highest increase in the first quarter since 2020. Among the 43 localities with growth rates higher than the national average, the top 5 localities are Bac Giang (13.82%), Hoa Binh (12.76%), Nam Dinh (11.86%), Da Nang (11.36%) and Lai Chau (11.32%).

Bac Giang is the leading locality in the country in economic growth in the first quarter of 2025. Industry is the main driving force contributing to the province's economic growth.

Bac Giang's industrial production index increased by 26.58% as some new companies that started production in August 2024 are operating stably, revenue in the first quarter of 2025 is 2.5-3 times higher than the same period last year and the province's investment attraction and business development activities have achieved positive results. By March 31, 2025, Bac Giang had attracted about 641.2 million USD in investment capital, an increase of 2.7% over the same period last year.

Hoa Binh is the second-ranked locality in the country in terms of growth rate with an increase of 12.76%, in which the total investment capital increased by 59.52% (many transport works and projects of the province are under construction simultaneously such as: Hoa Binh - Moc Chau Expressway; Hoa Binh - Hanoi regional connecting road and Son La Expressway; road connecting Bac Tran Hung Dao area to National Highway 6; and a number of foreign investment projects are being urgently completed to put into production from the second quarter).

Nam Dinh is the third largest locality in the country and the first in the Red River Delta with an economic growth rate of 11.86%. In particular, industrial production has developed steadily, the processing and manufacturing industry is assessed by businesses to be more prosperous than the same period last year. The industrial production index increased by 23.25% over the same period last year (with important contributions from the electronics, computer and optical products industries), reaching the highest growth rate since 2019.

Da Nang is the locality with the 4th highest growth rate in the country. The city's GRDP is estimated to increase by 11.36%, ranking first in the North Central and Central Coast regions. Tourism is a bright spot in Da Nang's service sector. The strong development of the tourism market has become an important driving force for synchronous growth in the tourism and travel service sector, contributing to improving the quality and expanding the influence of the industry. Tourism and travel service revenue in the first quarter of 2025 is estimated at VND 838.6 billion, accounting for 2.2% of the total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in the city, up 20% over the same period last year...

Lai Chau achieved a growth rate of 11.32%, ranking 5th in the country. From the beginning of the year, the province focused on promoting the development of a number of key areas, such as developing agriculture towards concentrated commodity production, developing key crops with high economic value, completing and developing Lai Chau ginseng in the province in the period of 2024-2030, strengthening support for connecting supply and demand for goods consumption, expanding export markets... Thanks to that, the agricultural, forestry and fishery sector increased by 3.77% over the same period last year, contributing 0.34 percentage points to the overall growth of the province.

The General Statistics Office assessed that the localities leading the country in GDP growth in the first quarter of 2025 are development models, regional linkage cores and pillars promoting GDP growth nationwide, striving to achieve the growth target of 8% in 2025 and reach double digits in the new era.
