Recently, PSSI President Erick Thohir announced that he has called on player Jay Idzes to become an Indonesian citizen.
Jay Idzes is in the process of applying for Indonesian citizenship.
“Today, I want to talk about player Jay Idzes. He will join the Indonesian national team and help us step into the world. Jay Idzes is only 23 years old, on the way to the peak of his career,” the PSSI President announced.
Jay Idzes is 1m90 tall, Dutch, and has an Indonesian grandmother.
This player is currently playing for Venezia Club (in Serie B, Italy). He can play well as a center back, defensive midfielder or central midfielder.
The 23-year-old star grew up at the famous PSV Eindhoven training center (Netherlands). He once played in the Dutch National Championship for Go Ahead Eagles.
Another name who is also in the process of applying for Indonesian citizenship is Nathan Tjoe-A-On.
Currently, the 21-year-old star belongs to Swansea City Club in the English First Division.
Talking about Nathan Tjoe-A-On, coach Shin Tae-yong said: “He is really interested in naturalization and has agreed to play for the Indonesian national team.
Of course, I have not made any specific decision for Nathan yet. I look forward to checking him out. I will discuss Nathan further with PSSI President Erick Thohir.”
In the near future, the Indonesian team may face Vietnam in two major tournaments: the 2023 Asian Cup and the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia.
At the 2023 Asian Cup, the archipelago team is in Group D with Japan, Iraq and Vietnam.
Meanwhile, if they beat Brunei in the first qualifying round, coach Shin Tae-yong and his team will meet the "Golden Star Warriors" again in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup, alongside the Philippines and Iraq.
