IELTS certificate is currently trusted by more than 12,000 domestic and foreign organizations, according to IDP
On the morning of May 9, IDP Vietnam officially spoke out about the controversial issuance of 56,230 IELTS certificates in 2022. The announcement was posted on the official fanpage and website, less than a day after the Ministry of Education and Training Inspectorate concluded that the unit had colluded to organize exams and illegally issue certificates in more than 30 provinces and cities in Vietnam.
According to IDP, the validity of IELTS certificates in 2022 is attracting the attention of many candidates. Regarding this issue, IDP affirmed: "Certificates issued during this period are still recognized by more than 12,000 organizations worldwide".
"We will continue to work closely with the Ministry of Education and Training as before to ensure compliance with all requirements of local management agencies," IDP said.
Previously, from January 1 to September 9, 2022, IDP jointly organized 458 exams in more than 30 provinces and cities and issued 46,643 IELTS certificates. From September 10 to November 16, 2022, IDP organized 97 in-person exams, along with computer-based exams in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, issuing an additional 9,587 certificates. These exams were not approved by the Ministry of Education and Training, according to the conclusion of the Ministry of Education and Training Inspectorate.
According to regulations, certificates that are issued incorrectly will not be valid for high school graduation or university admission. This information makes many candidates confused about whether it will affect their consideration for exemption from high school graduation exams or university admissions when the exam season is approaching; or their previous university admission and graduation results. Public opinion also asks, who will be responsible for compensating candidates if IELTS certificates are not accepted?
Previously, the Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training) sent an official dispatch to the Departments of Education and Training regarding the use of certificates to exempt from the foreign language test in the 2023 high school graduation exam, stating: "Candidates who have registered to take the 2023 high school graduation exam can use foreign language proficiency certificates issued after September 10, 2022 to consider exemption from the foreign language test according to regulations".
IELTS is an international English assessment system, currently accepted by more than 100 higher education institutions in Vietnam to convert test results into English scores for admission. The Ministry of Education and Training also allows candidates with IELTS scores of 4.5 or higher to be exempted from the high school graduation exam in foreign languages. And according to IELTS statistics, the average test score of Vietnamese people in 2022 is 6.2, ranking 23rd in the world.
