Vietnam Railways Trade Union has implemented many activities to care for workers, supporting thousands of cases with a budget of more than 3.5 billion VND.
At the conference to deploy the union's tasks in 2025 held this afternoon (December 16), Mr. Mai Thanh Phuong, Chairman of the Vietnam Railway Trade Union, said that practical activities to care for workers with support funds of billions of VND are outstanding results of the activities of railway trade unions at all levels in 2024.
Accordingly, the 2024 theme of activities is "Focusing on implementing the Resolution of the 16th Congress of Vietnam Railway Trade Union and the 13th Congress of Vietnam Trade Union; for workers, for the development of Vietnam Railway Corporation". Trade union activities at all levels have achieved many positive results.
Many targets assigned by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor have been strived to be completed and exceeded by trade unions at all levels.
On behalf of the President, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang presented the Second Class Labor Medal and the Prime Minister's Certificate of Merit to Mr. Mai Thanh Phuong, President of the Vietnam Railway Trade Union; Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Railway Corporation Dang Sy Manh presented congratulatory flowers.
The movement of workers, civil servants and laborers (CNVCLĐ) and trade union activities at all levels are increasingly proactive and effective. The work of caring for union members and laborers is increasingly deep and wide, in accordance with the spirit of focusing on union members, laborers and the grassroots.
Trade unions at all levels actively coordinate with professionals to organize emulation movements to improve production and business efficiency, improve working and living conditions, and focus all resources to take care of union members and workers.
Specifically, in addition to the peak activities during the Lunar New Year and Workers' Month, we regularly care for and improve the working and living conditions of workers, especially workers in disadvantaged units (upgrading and repairing accommodation and communal kitchens); supporting, encouraging and visiting workers in difficult circumstances (building charity houses and leak-proof roofs); participating in social security activities.
From the Social - Charity Fund in 2024 alone, more than 3.5 billion VND was allocated to visit, subsidize, and give gifts to more than 9,700 workers in difficult circumstances, with serious illnesses, work-related accidents, children with serious illnesses, disabilities, and provide humanitarian and charitable support... Especially on the occasions of Lunar New Year, Workers' Month, Month of Action on Occupational Safety and Health, Month of Action for Children; supporting units to overcome the landslide incidents of Bai Gio tunnel and Chi Thanh tunnel.
Of which, 737 workers were supported with hardship allowances worth more than 1.2 billion VND; visited and wished a happy new year to more than 4,000 workers; gave Tet gift bags to more than 1,100 workers worth 347 million VND; visited and encouraged more than 600 workers to overcome the consequences of Bai Gio and Chi Thanh tunnels, worth more than 500 million VND; and gave gifts to 934 workers on the occasion of War Invalids and Martyrs Day worth more than 300 million VND.
On the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the Railway Industry's traditional day (October 21, 1946 - October 21, 2024), the Vietnam Railway Trade Union also donated more than 2,200 gifts worth more than 600 million VND to workers in difficult circumstances...
Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Railways Corporation Dang Sy Manh awarded Certificates of Merit of the General Confederation of Labor to individuals with outstanding achievements in the emulation movement for good workers and building a strong trade union organization in 2024.
Regarding the support activities for people and railway workers affected by storm No. 3 (Yagi), 58 units participated in supporting with a total amount of more than 5 billion VND. From this source, 1,826 workers affected by storm No. 3 were visited and supported, with a total amount of 3.92 billion VND.
The Vietnam Railways Trade Union has also allocated about VND1 billion to support 1,006 affected workers. The grassroots level has visited and supported 981 affected workers with a total amount of more than VND2.6 billion.
At the same time, continuing to implement the "Loving Leaves" Program of Vietnam Railway Corporation, the Union has coordinated with the Professional Department and the Youth Union to connect individual and collective benefactors inside and outside the industry with children of railway workers in difficult circumstances, to encourage them to have more determination to go to school and fulfill their dream of studying. By 2024, 102 children had been supported by the program.
