BTO-In 2 days (October 2 and 3), the Provincial Farmers' Association coordinated with Rang Dong Light Bulb and Thermos Joint Stock Company to organize a workshop on specialized 5W LED lights to stimulate dragon fruit flowering in 2 districts: Ham Thuan Nam and Ham Thuan Bac.
Attending the workshop in each locality were more than 70 delegates, representatives of the Farmers' Association, the District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Farmers' Association of communes and some typical dragon fruit growing households in the area.
According to the Provincial Farmers' Association, based on the results of the joint implementation of the pilot model of specialized 5W LED lights to stimulate dragon fruit flowering in Binh Thuan province in the past time, it is known that through 20 experiments conducted in the off-season in the past 2 years, the results show that 5W LED lights (red light) with a density of 2 m/bulb, with a density of 1,785 bulbs/ha, have the ability to stimulate dragon fruit flowering similar to 9W LED lights (yellow light) with a density of 1.5 m/bulb, a density of 2,380 bulbs/ha. Thereby, saving 48% of electricity costs, reducing 10.25% of total production costs.
Therefore, farmers should use 5W LED bulbs to process off-season dragon fruit flowering, both saving electricity and minimizing environmental impact. On the other hand, farmers can boldly arrange 5W LED lights at a distance of 2 m/bulb, to reduce production costs.
Also at the workshop, delegates and dragon fruit farmers were provided with technical information and some related government policies by the production unit. The goal is to transition to new energy sources and renewable energy to reduce environmental pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
According to the Binh Thuan Statistics Office, the province's dragon fruit growing area is currently estimated at 26,900 hectares, down 1.54% over the same period last year. The area reduction is concentrated in Ham Thuan Bac, Ham Thuan Nam, and Ham Tan, mainly due to people switching to growing other crops. According to records, up to this point, dragon fruit farmers have begun to light up the 2024 off-season dragon fruit crop, and the selling price of dragon fruit is currently above 20,000 VND/kg.
