The 13th WTO Ministerial Conference ended later than expected.

In his speech at the MC13 Conference, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien highly appreciated the role of the WTO in leading and promoting the trade liberalization process effectively.

In order for the WTO in general and the MC13 Conference in particular to contribute more actively to promoting sustainable growth, creating more real opportunities for businesses and people, the Minister suggested that WTO members focus on the discussion and negotiation contents that have made much progress to narrow the gap and reach consensus among members (in which the reform of the WTO dispute settlement mechanism plays a very important role); as well as finding appropriate solutions to development issues, fundamentally resolving differences in views among members on the issue of special and differential treatment in the current context to ensure a balance of rights and obligations of all members, in accordance with the development level of each country.

The Minister also affirmed that Vietnam has been fully implementing the results achieved at MC12. Like many other responsible members, Vietnam is committed to supporting efforts and initiatives to reform the WTO to improve the effectiveness of this organization.

On the sidelines of the MC13 Conference, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien also had bilateral meetings and contacts with the Director General of the World Trade Organization to affirm the Vietnamese Government's commitment to supporting the multilateral trading system;

At the same time, the Minister had bilateral meetings and contacts with a number of WTO members such as Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Costa Rica, Kazakhstan, Israel, Singapore, the United States, China, Nepal, Romania, Canada, and Malaysia to discuss bilateral and regional issues of mutual concern, thereby exchanging and finding solutions to promote economic, trade and investment cooperation.
