(Fatherland) - The People's Committee of Hoi An City, Quang Nam Province has just approved the project outline for building a green tour route to Cu Lao Cham (Tan Hiep island commune, Hoi An City).
According to the People's Committee of Hoi An City, the implementation of "Building a green tour route to Cu Lao Cham, Tan Hiep Commune, Hoi An City" with the goal of becoming a green destination is an urgent task, contributing to the successful implementation of the Project "Developing tourism in Hoi An City to 2025, with a vision to 2030". At the same time, it provides lessons for replicating the Green Destination model in the city.

Accordingly, the general goal is to promote and guide green tourism practices at tourist accommodation establishments, restaurants, souvenir shops, and tourist attractions on the tour route to form a green Cu Lao Cham tour route.
Specifically, the city strives to have 5 homestay businesses recognized as meeting green tourism standards according to the Quang Nam Green Tourism Criteria for Homestays; 3 travel agencies on the Hoi An - Cu Lao Cham route recognized as meeting green tourism standards according to the Quang Nam Green Tourism Criteria for Travel Agencies; 5 tourist attractions recognized as meeting green tourism standards according to the Quang Nam Green Tourism Criteria for Tourist Attractions; 50% of souvenir shops practicing green tourism; 50% of restaurants at Ong beach, Chong beach, 5 restaurants at Lang beach practicing green tourism;
The scope of implementation is the basic tourist route in Cu Lao Cham. The subjects are homestay businesses, travel service businesses, tourist attractions, restaurants, souvenir shops, on the basic tourist route in Cu Lao Cham; units transporting tourists to the island and the operator of Cua Dai tourist wharf and the Guest Reception House at Chong beach practicing green tourism.
The implementation period is 12 months with the following contents: Assessment of the current status of green practices on the tour route and business establishments subject to implementation in Cu Lao Cham; guidance on green tourism practices; preparation of dossiers requesting recognition of Homestays, Travel Agencies, and tourist attractions; communication about the Cu Lao Cham green tour route...

Cu Lao Cham is an island cluster belonging to Tan Hiep island commune, Hoi An city, located 16 km from Cua Dai beach. Recognized by UNESCO as a world biosphere reserve with an area of over 15.5 km², Cu Lao Cham has 610 households with about 2,900 people living. With its biodiversity and favorable climate, Cu Lao Cham is increasingly becoming an attractive destination for tourists when coming to Hoi An.
Livelihoods in Cu Lao Cham fishing village come from tourism activities such as travel services, accommodation services, tourist transportation and food and beverage business, souvenirs at the site... and from fishing activities, providing products for tourism activities (seafood catching).
Currently, there are 34 businesses participating in the Hoi An - Cu Lao Cham tourism business, with 75 boats and ships with a capacity of 3,000 passengers per day. In 2019, more than 400,000 tourists bought tickets to visit Cu Lao Cham. Tourism activities have brought significant income to the people thanks to the government's orientation of developing community tourism. Community-based tourism development models have been effectively implemented such as: Community model participating in coral reef restoration, community model participating in waste classification at source, community model saying no to plastic bags... thereby, encouraging people to participate in the process of developing green tourism on the island.
