The information was shared in the online TV consulting program "Choosing a major for the future: Design, fine arts, architecture" which took place yesterday afternoon (March 26), at the following addresses: thanhnien.vn , Facebook Fanpage, YouTube channel, Tik Tok Thanh Nien Newspaper.
SURPRISING JOBS FOR ART STUDENTS
Sharing in the program, Dr. Vo Thanh Hai, Vice Principal of Duy Tan University, said that according to statistics on the situation of students having jobs after 12 months of graduation announced by the Ministry of Education and Training last year, art is one of the training fields with the highest rate of students finding jobs in the past 4 years. "This number may be surprising because art is not among the fields with the most candidates registering to study. But in contrast to the fields with the highest number of candidates registering, art has a higher employment rate. For example, in 2020, this rate in the art field was up to 97% - meaning that for every 10 students graduating after 1 year, almost all of them had a job," Dr. Hai added.
Talent and the impact of AI on the design - fine arts - architecture industry were issues raised during the consultation session on choosing future majors that took place yesterday afternoon (March 26).
Explaining this phenomenon, Dr. Hai said that among the 24 training fields corresponding to 377 majors, art is the field with a relatively small number of students registering to study compared to other fields, ranking only 13th out of 24 fields. In 2023, the rate of admitted students accounted for only 1.36% of the total number of admitted university students, equivalent to about 8,000 students. In 2022, the number of students was slightly higher but still less than 9,000 people. Therefore, the level of competition among students after graduation is not high, leading to a high rate of students having jobs.
In addition, Dr. Hai believes that one reason may be that this field requires learners to have certain talents. "In addition, part of the reason may be due to the impact of the 4.0 industrial revolution. In a world where technology is developing rapidly, aspects of art, humanities, psychology, etc. are more important than ever," added the Vice President of Duy Tan University.
Regarding the current training and employment situation in the field of architecture and construction, Dr. Hai said that in 2023, this field will have 18,660 students studying. The actual demand of the labor market for trained human resources needs to reach 75%, but this rate is currently only at 65%. "Another important point about employment for architecture students is the ability to create jobs for themselves. A statistic shows that 20% of architecture students can create jobs for themselves, 58% work in non-state enterprises, only 8% work for the state," Dr. Hai added.
Master Pham Thi Hong Lien, advisor to the Faculty of Architecture and Fine Arts at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, said that the school is currently training a number of majors following new trends, integrating technology in specific training fields. It can be said that these trending majors create more opportunities for learners.
DO SPECIAL INDUSTRIES REQUIRE SPECIAL INPUT?
In response to this question, school representatives said it depends on each school's admissions method.
At Vietnam-Germany University, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Thanh Duong, Head of the Faculty of Engineering, said that this year the school has 5 admission methods for each major. For the architecture major, the school does not require candidates to take the drawing exam at the school. However, in the method of considering high school graduation exam scores, candidates can use the drawing scores taken from other schools to apply for admission according to the school's prescribed combination.
Contestants in the drawing contest
Speaking more about the use of the TestAS exam for admission to the architecture major, Associate Professor Duong said that candidates need to take the exam for candidates applying to the engineering major. The exam consists of two parts: basic knowledge and specialized knowledge, and does not test drawing ability. In the specialized exam, candidates will be tested on their knowledge of math, physics and related subjects. Math and physics are mandatory conditions for studying well in this major. At the same time, aesthetic sense, creativity and skillful hands are also plus points.
"The school does not require students to take an entrance exam for drawing, but students will be trained in this skill in their first year. After 4 years, students will be able to draw by hand, and especially able to use computer drawing technology," Associate Professor Duong added.
Master Pham Thi Hong Lien also said that Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology has different options for candidates applying to these majors. Depending on the admission method, candidates can choose a combination that includes an aptitude test or not. If applying based on aptitude scores, candidates can take the drawing test at the school or consider drawing scores from other schools.
"For candidates who do not use drawing, the first year training program has subjects that provide knowledge and drawing skills. When entering the major, students continue to practice these skills to meet the requirements before graduation," added Master Lien.
For more information, Dr. Vo Thanh Hai said that the art field has 4 groups with more than 30 majors, not all majors test drawing aptitude right at the entrance exam. For example, Duy Tan University organizes fine arts drawing competitions or uses the scores of this subject organized by other universities to select students for the architecture major. Meanwhile, the school does not consider aptitude for graphic design.
But according to Dr. Hai, these majors still require necessary factors from students. For example, in the field of architecture, math and physics are the foundation along with drawing skills. "If students are not strong in math and physics, they will have difficulty in the learning process, and may not even meet the requirements to graduate," said the Vice Principal of Duy Tan University.
Technology has a supporting role
When choosing an art-oriented major, TS should not worry. Technology only supports making a picture, program, or product more perfect, but it all depends on humans. Artificial Intelligence (AI) will not be able to have emotions like humans to be able to create emotional products. Machines cannot replace humans no matter how much technology develops.
Dr. Tran Van Hung
(Deputy Dean of Faculty of Engineering Technology, Hong Bang International University)
Technology develops, the related art industry develops accordingly.
The movement of society is increasingly linked to the development of technology, and in the field of art, the more technology develops, the more this industry develops. According to statistics in 2023, the art group accounts for a low proportion but is still among the groups of many students choosing. Many schools recruit this group of majors with different standard scores. Some schools have 14 - 15 points, but some schools, such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture, have years when they take 27 - 28 points. Particularly, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance has a standard score for majors ranging from 19 - 21. This is a fairly high score among the school's training majors, showing the interest of learners in this field.

Learners need to think to appreciate beauty.
Using technology can support all jobs, including fine arts, design, and architecture. If you do not have a talent for drawing, you will certainly encounter certain obstacles. However, drawing talent can still be trained. The most important qualities for students in this field are the ability to appreciate beauty and an open mind. At Nguyen Tat Thanh University, students will receive professional training, practice, and experience to apply in real work.
