On the afternoon of January 26, Liverpool FC made a surprising announcement. Coach Jurgen Klopp will not continue to be with the Anfield team after the end of the 2023/24 season. The German coach's assistants, Pepijn Lijnders, Peter Krawietz and Vitor Matos, also parted ways with Liverpool.
Coach Jurgen Klopp chose mid-season to announce his decision to leave Liverpool to give the team time to prepare for the transition.
Coach Jurgen Klopp will leave Liverpool after the 2023/24 season.
"I can understand that it is a shock for many people at this time to hear the news, but I can explain it clearly," Liverpool's homepage quoted coach Jurgen Klopp.
“I love this club, I love this city, I love the fans, I love the staff. I love them all. However, I am convinced that this is the decision I have to make. I am exhausted. At the moment, I have no problems. I knew I would have to make this announcement at some point, but I am fine at the moment. I know I cannot do this job over and over again.”
Coach Jurgen Klopp said he had informed the club's leaders of his intention to leave in September 2023, when the season had just started. The German coach also had calculations to prepare for the next season, even if he was no longer attached to the Anfield team.
Jurgen Klopp was appointed Liverpool manager in October 2015, replacing Brendan Rodgers, who was sacked earlier. The German coach led the Anfield team to the 2019/20 Premier League title, the 2018/19 Champions League title and reached the final of the tournament twice more in 2018 and 2022.
Under coach Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool finished second in the Europa League in 2016, won the Club World Cup in 2019, won the European Super Cup in the same year and the English League Cup in 2022, FA Cup 2021/22.
