HTV-Ton Dong A Television Cup 2025: Nick Kergozou wins in Hue after a breathless sprint

Stage 8 of the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City Television Cup - Ton Dong A National Cycling Race, 171.5 km long, from Dong Hoi ( Quang Binh ) to Hue City on April 11, took place dramatically with a spectacular sprint between "sprint king" Nick Kergozou and Savva Novikov.

Starting with a strong attack, 5 racers including Nguyen Anh Huy (Pelio Kenda Dong Nai), Nguyen Duong Ho Vu (HCMC New Group), Vo Thanh An (620 Chau Thoi Vinh Long), Ta Tuan Vu (Military Zone 7) and Nguyen Hoang Ngoc Linh (Gao Hat Ngoc Troi An Giang ) escaped the large group and led the race in harsh hot weather conditions.

Racer Nguyen Anh Huy was the first to reach the milestone at Sprint 1 (Dai Loi Ton Dong A Dealer - Quang Tri ). Sprint 2 at the National Martyrs Cemetery on Road 9 recorded the victory of Ta Tuan Vu, while Nguyen Hoang Ngoc Linh surpassed to win Sprint 3 at Phuoc Dung Ton Dong A Dealer (Hai Lang, Quang Tri).

Right after Sprint 3, Nguyen Hoang Ngoc Linh decided to attack alone, creating a gap of nearly 3 minutes with the yellow jersey group of Loic Desriac (Domesco Pharmacy Dong Thap). However, the An Giang racer's efforts were extinguished when less than 20 km from the finish line due to fierce pursuit from the large group.

Nick Kergozou was half a wheel ahead of Savva Novikov, winning his fourth stage of the race and continuing to hold the Green Jersey title - the sprint king.

The drama continued to escalate when Tran Nguyen Minh Tri (Domesco Dong Thap Pharmacy), Nguyen Hoang Sang (Le Fruit Maxxis Dong Nai) and Pham Le Xuan Loc (Military Zone 7) suddenly attacked at the last 15 km, but were quickly caught up by the larger group.

In the final kilometers, teams 620 Nong Nghiep Vinh Long and 620 Chau Thoi Vinh Long sent out their "spearhead" Nick Kergozou to compete in the sprint with Savva Novikov (Binh Minh Binh Duong Plastic). The two riders finished almost at the same time, forcing the referee to review the video to determine the winner. As a result, Nick Kergozou was half a wheel ahead, winning the 4th stage of the tournament and continuing to hold the title of Green Jersey - king of the sprint.

The group finished in the same group, so the titles remained unchanged: Loic Desriac continued to hold the Yellow Jersey, Nguyen Tan Hoai held the Orange Jersey, Dang Van Phap held the White Jersey, and the Red Dot Jersey was still in the hands of Bui Duy Tung (Hanoi).

Tomorrow, April 12, the racers will enter stage 9 with 20 laps around Trang Tien - Phu Xuan bridge in Hue city, total distance 42 km.
