The North-South Eastern Expressway Project for the 2021-2025 period is being implemented in Ha Tinh with a total length of more than 102km. Of which, the Vung Ang - Bung section is more than 55km long (12.9km through Ha Tinh, more than 42km through Quang Binh) and is one of three component projects of this project. The starting point of the project intersects with National Highway 12C, connecting with the Ham Nghi - Vung Ang Expressway in Ky Tan Commune, Ky Anh District, Ha Tinh Province and the end point connects with the Bung - Van Ninh Expressway in Cu Nam Commune, Bo Trach District, Quang Binh Province. |

Vung Ang - Bung Expressway has a total investment of more than 12,500 billion VND, started construction on January 1, 2023 by Project Management Board 6 (Ministry of Transport) as the investor. |

Joint Stock Company 484 - one of the 5 contractors undertaking the construction has basically finished lowering the 60m high hill. The 3km main route has been paved with C25 hollow asphalt concrete. |

After nearly 19 months since the groundbreaking date, the Vung Ang – Bung expressway has gradually taken shape with the main route constructed with cement-reinforced crushed stone and C25 hollow asphalt concrete along with many items of tunnels through mountains and bridges across forests and rivers. |
Along the Vung Ang – Bung expressway, there are 33 bridges, of which 28 are on the expressway and 5 are cross-road bridges. Bridges 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are critical projects in the section through Ha Tinh. |
Bridge No. 1 is nearly 1 km long and is designed with 2 abutments and 22 pillars, of which the highest pillar is up to 50m, to connect 2 hills, spanning a valley with a basin terrain in Ky Hoa commune, Ky Anh town. This bridge is undertaken by Hoa Binh 479 Joint Stock Company, currently 6/22 spans have been installed, reaching 55-60% of the volume. |
The contractor prioritizes mobilizing a team of highly skilled and experienced engineers and workers to speed up the progress of projects, especially bridges and tunnels through mountains. |
Bridge No. 2 and Bridge No. 3 run along the Kim Son reservoir with a capacity of 17.5 million m3 in Ky Hoa commune, Ky Anh town, constructed by Construction Joint Stock Company 368. When put into operation, the two bridge items will create a majestic landscape on the highway. |
“The construction unit is constructing 3 bridges, No. 2, 3 and 5. After more than 1 year of construction, bridges No. 2 and No. 5 have reached 90-95% progress, and the remaining items include waterproofing spraying and concrete pavement. Bridge No. 3 alone has reached about 70%, the substructures and foundation pillars are nearly completed. This bridge is behind schedule due to some additional designs. It is expected that the mountain and lake overpass projects will be completed in November,” said Mr. Dao Van Cuong - Commander of Joint Stock Company 368. |
Meanwhile, Bridge No. 5 is an overpass, crossing the mountain leading to Deo But tunnel – the only road tunnel on the North-South expressway through Ha Tinh. Bridge No. 5 has also completed over 90% of the work, ahead of schedule. |
30-50m high piers are used for bridges over hills and lakes. |
On the sections where crushed stone has been graded and a layer of hollow asphalt concrete has been laid, the contractor has completed the reinforcement of the slope and planted grass to limit landslides. |
The Deo But tunnel project is nearly 1km long, passing through Dong Nang mountain, the north belongs to Ky Lac commune (Ky Anh district), the south belongs to Ky Hoa commune (Ky Anh town). The project is designed to be permanent, reinforced concrete shell, with two separate tunnels, each 15m wide and 8m high. The contractor is currently focusing on the construction of the remaining tunnel. |
Due to the nature of the Vung Ang - Bung expressway near Ngang Pass, close to the Hoanh Son range, construction will be difficult during the rainy season, so this time, taking advantage of the sunny weather, contractors have mobilized human resources and machinery to focus on simultaneously deploying construction sites, making efforts to speed up progress, difficult points and critical paths in terms of progress are also given priority. |
“Despite the heat, we still try to work to meet the schedule. To avoid the sun, we will work earlier in the morning to avoid harsh weather, and later in the afternoon,” said worker Quang Van Thang (27 years old, residing in Nghe An province). |
Faced with the requirement of completion and handover in April 2025, the contractor is currently accelerating the progress of the Vung Ang - Bung project to achieve the set target. |
