Identifying communication work to raise awareness of gender equality as the top priority and core content in implementing Project 8 under the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development for Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2030 period. Right from the time of developing the plan and program for implementing the Project, the Women's Union of Yen Lap district has focused on communication work, choosing scientific methods and approaches, innovative and creative content, concise, easy to understand, easy to implement, suitable for the locality and the target group of women and children in each place.

The general objective of Project 8 is to raise awareness, change prejudices, care for material and spiritual life, protect and care for women and children, achieve gender equality goals and focus on effectively solving some urgent issues for women and children in ethnic minority and mountainous areas. Implementing Project 8, in the past 3 years, women's unions at all levels in Yen Lap district have carried out many meaningful tasks to improve the material and spiritual life of women and children in ethnic minority areas. Ms. Hoang Thi Lan, a member of the Women's Union of Zone 3, Xuan Thuy Commune, said: "Although my family has only one child, thanks to the propaganda of the Women's Union at all levels about gender equality, my husband and I always understand each other. My husband does not force me to have a third child, and is determined to raise our two daughters well. I have more understanding and correct awareness of women's rights and interests in all fields."
Especially in 2023, in order to highlight and spread the propaganda work on gender equality in the community, the District Women's Union organized a ceremony to honor the Chairwoman of the Women's Union at the grassroots level and the head of the ethnic minority branch who are exemplary in gender equality work; a contest to learn about the Law on Prevention and Control of Domestic Violence; coordinated to organize the launching ceremony of the Communication Campaign to respond to the month of action for gender equality with the theme "Ensuring social security, increasing power and creating opportunities for women and girls to implement Gender Equality and eliminate gender-based violence in 2023 with hundreds of participants...
Ms. Dinh Thi Hieu, President of the Women's Union of Phuc Khanh commune shared: “Implementing Project 8, from 2021 to now, we have organized gender equality propaganda in many forms such as: distributing leaflets, hanging banners, slogans, integrating into association activities, giving talks... In particular, every year there are large-scale district-level communication activities responding to the peak month of action for gender equality and prevention of domestic violence, attracting a large number of members and people to participate. Before the propaganda sessions, we conduct surveys, select core issues, suitable for each subject and locality, focusing on propagating changes in thinking and ways of doing things, contributing to eliminating prejudices and gender stereotypes in families and communities, and cultural practices that are harmful to women and children".
The propaganda work has contributed to raising awareness among members and people, creating positive changes in gender equality work in the district. Comrade Hoang Thi Quyen - President of the Yen Lap District Women's Union said: "In order for Project 8 to go into depth, be effective, and create practical benefits for ethnic minority women and children, the District Women's Union has issued a pilot plan and instructions for building models under Project 8 such as: "Leader of Change" Club; "Trusted Address" (a temporary shelter for victims of domestic violence) and community communication teams. The models are increasingly effective in propaganda work, mobilizing to change gender stereotypes, promoting gender equality in society".

Along with that, the District Women's Union focuses on organizing training courses to improve knowledge on preventing and combating gender-based violence, skills to support victims and operate "Trusted Addresses"; guide the planning of communication events, organize activities for members of models, clubs and people in the community.
With effective methods and creative models in propagating and implementing Project 8 of the Women's Union at all levels, it has gradually changed and raised the community's awareness of gender equality. Thereby creating conditions for ethnic minority women and children in the district to develop comprehensively, have a better and more equal life.
